Technology in the Classroom: The Good and Bad

Technology in the Classroom: The Good and Bad | Litteris | Scoop.it
For a child, technology plays many roles: teacher, babysitter, playmate and pacifier. As a result, our kids are drifting between the digital and analog worlds, and often find themselves tripped up by the border between the two.

Katie Mazza's curator insight, February 20, 8:49 AM

This research shows that children learn better when interacting with tools like the iPad in class rather than kids who just watch. The studies done also show that 29% of parents download apps for their children to use. Georgetown university did a study with children with a puppet show some watching live some watching a video recording and a third groups that interactively made a puppet show with a computer. They then went into a room to look for the puppets. The kids who watched a video had a harder time finding the puppets than the other two groups.

Elements of Compelling Video Storytelling

Elements of Compelling Video Storytelling | Litteris | Scoop.it

"Once upon a time, public relations professionals only considered using video for major national stories – a video news release.

But over the past several years, in the throes of a slow and rather quiet death, print media has moved past obsolete into antiquated, and video media has surged forward to replace it.

Internet video channels and the phenomenon of “viral” status has rendered video an essential element in successful national-level business storytelling. This is evident in Forbes, the Wall Street Journal and Inc."

Visual Storytelling: The Key Weapon to Content Marketing

Visual Storytelling: The Key Weapon to Content Marketing | Litteris | Scoop.it

"Thanks to social networks, we’ve naturally been driven to a host of metrics that include attributes of “engagement” and conversations shared online."

"This, in turn, has fueled the content marketing race – and ultimately, the quest for producing what is most relevant or valuable to a company’s current and prospective customers."

"As we compete in this context to draw attention for our brand and offerings, perhaps one element has remained constant above all others: the power of visual storytelling."

An interesting look at transmedia properties which have books as a key component.  In fact, Dynasty of the Magi has just won the award for Best Transmedia Project in the Publishing Innovation Awards.

Parker Donat's curator insight, January 22, 7:30 PM

For business storytelling to be a success there needs to be a good strategy around making money. Given that eBooks and apps are so popular there is a definate opportunity to tell a great story using these platfrorms to create a more engaged community. I haven't bought this book but it seems to really understand transmedia and the use of muliple patforms. And this book, Dynasty of the Magi has just won the award for Best Transmedia Project in the Publishing Innovation Awards

Film education: should we begin?

Film education: should we begin? | Litteris | Scoop.it

David W.Tankersley:

"I hear people say that movies have become the modern day "novel", meaning, I suppose, that people today (particiularly youngsters) use movies as their choice of entertainment, story-gathering, listening and learning. Not sure if I agree, but if that is the case, are we teaching our school children the difference between fine art and drivel? Are we conducting classes in film, and have we written curriculum for the language of film? If not, shouldn't we begin?"

Consumers in the US and UK are increasingly turning to broadband content and social networks to complement their existing viewing habits, according to a new survey by Accenture.

Accenture’s Pulse of Media Consumer Survey found that almost half of consumers are viewing over-the-top video through a broadband connection on their TVs (50% in the US and 48% in the UK) in addition to the content they traditionally watch via cable or satellite.

Once Upon A Time: Fairy Tales With A Feminist Twist ‹ Feminspire

Once Upon A Time: Fairy Tales With A Feminist Twist ‹ Feminspire | Litteris | Scoop.it

“Fairy tales with a twist are trendy right now. The retelling of old stories–but giving them strong female leads–is empowering for women, young and old. Retellings of Snow White where the title character is a hardcore warrior in her own right (like Snow White and the Huntsman) and shows like Once Upon a Time beat any bedtime stories where the beautiful maiden waits for Prince Charming to, uh, save her from whatever. Sure, every now and then a girl needs some saving, but let’s get real here – at least half the time, it’s the other way around. A big part of Once Upon A Time‘s appeal lies in its compilation of female characters that kick butt.”

Write Novel in 13 chapters, ready for Episodic Drama

Write Novel in 13 chapters, ready for Episodic Drama | Litteris | Scoop.it
Binge-viewing has become such a popular way for Americans to watch TV that it is changing the ways that networks create and distribute episodes.

Via Judith van Praag
Judith van Praag's curator insight, February 2, 11:43 AM

Just thinking: Why not write a novel as if made for TV. Until now juming from one scene (location) to the next was not done in stories, only done in episodic drama, on TV, and yes in film. To remember TV shows that didn't jump around much means you're ancient. And to be ancient and still wanting to be part of the fun means you've got to get with it.
