4 Ways of Looking at a Mentor Text: Incidental Comics | Litteris | Scoop.it
The school year is winding down—and I find myself thinking more and more of warm poolside days—yet everywhere I turn, rich mentor texts seem to come my way. O fim do fim do livro | PublishNews

O fim do fim do livro | PublishNews | Litteris | Scoop.it
Varrer o concorrente do mapa. Acabar com o livro impresso. Segundo essa distopia, ele seguiria moribundo. Discutia-se a data final. O avanço do e-book seria exponencial. Temer refunda o PNLD | PublishNews

Temer refunda o PNLD | PublishNews | Litteris | Scoop.it

Writing as Discovery: When Process Defaults to Script

Writing as Discovery: When Process Defaults to Script | Litteris | Scoop.it
For most people, I imagine, vacations spur thoughts of welcomed relief from day-to-day routines and obligations. But as a writer—one who writes almost daily—I find vacation’s necessary break from routine is almost unbearable. My ideal existence would include waking early, 5:30 or 6, and then shuffling through my morning ritual online—some things practical and some, quasi-recreational/quasi-professional—while…

Why libraries are the best place for us to work. | Caravan Studios | Medium.com | Litteris | Scoop.it

At Caravan Studios, our participatory methodology fuels everything we do. It’s the how behind our work, and public engagement and ownership is a big part of that how. Recently, I shared a concept note that described the first part of this methodology. The note was geared toward people who might be interested in testing (and funding) the effort in their community of interest. In it, I said, as I often do, that libraries are the places where we hold events.

Why libraries? One person asked. Why not innovation hubs, or co-working spaces?

This is a great question. While there is nothing wrong with those spaces, for our work, libraries are EXACTLY the right place.

When I was writing my dissertation, I sat in the library each day I was on campus. Colleagues knew it was where I was and it was central to my writing. When I went somewhere else, the walk was meditative, clarified what I was writing, and cleared my mind.

We need libraries in our schools to be gathering places and places of solitude.

"Turning the Pages is a software program developed by Armadillo Studios that enables libraries and museums to digitize books, manuscripts, and other documents in an engaging 3D format. Here, readers will find the British Library's spectacular collection of items digitized with this software. The collection may be of special interest to literary scholars, religious studies scholars, historians, and book lovers of all stripes. This ample collection, which spans centuries and genres, includes highlights from Leonardo da Vinci's notebook; a handwritten and illustrated history of England authored by a thirteen-year-old Jane Austen; and diaries kept by Robert Falcon Scott during his final journey to Antarctica in 1911 and 1912 (an expedition that tragically ended in his death). In addition, this collection features a number of religious texts, Mozart's musical diary, and much more. Items are accompanied by detailed annotations that provide additional context for each page. Turning the Pages™ - British Library"

Six Sites With Truly Free eBooks

Six Sites With Truly Free eBooks  | Litteris | Scoop.it
Free ebook sites are so common now that they are not just a dime a dozen, they're a dime a gross. All of the major ebook stores have free ebooks, and you can find even more free (and legal) sites with a simple Google search. But sometimes I need a site that has ebooks worth reading, doesn't have DRM, and doesn't require an account. And that's why I put together this list of I go to when I need reading material and am in a hurry. Feedbooks Feedbooks is by no means the biggest free ebook site and it's not the easiest to navigate, but it comes first in my list because the ebooks are well-formatted and are available in Epub, Kindle, and PDF. It's nice to have that last option because there have been times where I was using a device which did not have a reading app other than Adobe Reader. (Yes, it does happen.) Also, Feedbooks has a mobile site, and that makes it a lot easier to download ebooks to the tablet I want to read them on. Standard eBooks This free ebook site is dedicated to producing the highest quality ebooks, and then giving them [...]
