PARCC Field Test Resources Site

In spring 2014, the PARCC Field Test will be administered to over one million students across PARCC states. The PARCC Field Test represents a critical milestone in PARCC’s work toward building assessments for the 2014-15 school year, and will give students and local educators the opportunity to experience the administration of PARCC assessments. The Field Test will be conducted in a random selection of schools across PARCC states. The sample of students in the selected schools will represent the demographics of each state and PARCC as a whole.

Close reading is and outcome, not a technique

Close reading is and outcome, not a technique | Literazzi | Scoop.it

"The trick is to scaffold the readings and re-readings sufficiently to allow these students to participate successfully—they have to do the reading and thinking, you can’t do it for them."

Shanahan makes point that Close Reading is not a technique, rather it is an outcome. I believe that the Four Resources Model (Luke & Freebody) http://www.learningplace.com.au/deliver/content.asp?pid=17768 is a useful lens to develop Close Reading of texts.

K-12 Writing Rubrics (Genre Specific) | Common Core State Standards | Literazzi | Scoop.it
The Common Core State Standards have made it even more important for educators to assist students in making the connections between writing and reading through thoughtful and well-planned instruction, assignments and feedback. The Elk Grove Unified School District (EGUSD) created Common Core State Standards-aligned writing rubrics as a resource to assist teachers with this work. These rubrics are intended to help in instructional planning and to provide guidance in assisting students with the writing process.

Dennis T OConnor's curator insight, November 10, 2013 3:11 PM

Prompts are handy tools.  Students should learn how to write from prompts. However,  never slam the door shut on a student generated topic. Instead encourage students to generate their own prompts whenever they can.
