Skype can be used to support the Australian Curriculum: Technologies strand of digital technologies strand Digital Technologies Processes and Production Skills under the sub-strand Creating and interacting online.

 

The use of Skype could engage students in communication and collaboration with people in other schools or towns, cities, countries etc. to share and exchange information.

 

This digital technology could be used to link technology and enhance learning in any key learning area. An example of this use is demonstrated in the video provided within this site. There is also a direct link to "Skype in the Classroom" that provides useful classroom ideas.

This would be a useful tool in promoting communication and collaboration both inside and outside the classroom. It would be extremely beneficial for teachers delivering the Australian Curriculum: Technologies, specifically creating and interacting online under the strand of Digital Technologies processes and production skills Years 5 - 6. 

 

6.8 Use a range of communication tools and agreed social protocols when collaborating on projects and creating, communicating and sharing ideas and information online.
