"My second graders love using the I-nigma app to read QR codes.  As part of our science curriculum on environmental interactions we went to Pinchot for an Environmental Field Day, focusing on Insects and other “Pests.”  As a follow up activity when we returned, the students completed the “Spiders QR Webquest.”" http://blog.wssd.k12.pa.us/ipads/files/2013/06/QR-Spider-Activity.docx

Free Technology for Teachers: Tony Vincent's Favorite iPad Apps That Are Also Android Apps

Free Technology for Teachers: Tony Vincent's Favorite iPad Apps That Are Also Android Apps | Literacy | Scoop.it

"Tony Vincent's Learning in Hand is one of my go-to places for ideas about iPad apps. Last week after Book Creator for Android was released Tony published a document in which he has listed his favorite iPad apps that are also available as Android apps. About half of the apps on the list are free. You can click through the document to go directly to each of the apps in their respective iOS and Android app stores."

33 Great Apps for Storytelling and Creativity

33 Great Apps for Storytelling and Creativity | Literacy | Scoop.it

"Here are the main apps I suggest for storytelling. Some of them are actual bookmaking apps, some are apps for creating stories in various ways and others are apps I would use to help kids plan out a story. I have listed them in the order of importance for my classroom. I think the first 10 on the list are a must have for all elementary classrooms."

Help your child’s reading with free tips & free ebooks | Oxford Owl

Help your child’s reading with free tips & free ebooks | Oxford Owl | Literacy | Scoop.it
Oxford Owl: Help your child’s reading with free tips, phonics support, free ebooks, and the latest reading news. All from Oxford University Press.

John Dalziel's curator insight, July 24, 2013 3:14 PM

Oxford Owl is a collection of free children’s ebooks for learners ages 3-11. Each ebook has accompanying audio so that learners can choose to read along, or read independently. The books also have activities focusing on reading comprehension and story recall. There are several options for filtering the ebooks including by...
- age,
- book type, and
- by series.
As well as the eBooks visitors will find...
- activities and recommendations for each age group,
- games to print and play, and
- online games with characters from the books and site.
NOTE: Oxford Owl is flash-based. Not ideal at all for a learning environment full of iPads. Luckily, there are solutions. There are several Flash Browsers that you can download for the iPad to view flash content. My current preference is Photon.
