The  evolution of data storage has been very interesting to watch, I can remember buying audio tapes, then compact disks, them digital music downloads, now we are entering into a new technology like Trent Reznor's Beats, which allows full access to any and all music for a relatively small fee.

Other types of Data storage have evolved even more dynamically, evidenced by the following infographic.

65 Accomplished Writers and Marketers Reveal Their Secrets to Productivity | Focusalot - Blog

65 Accomplished Writers and Marketers Reveal Their Secrets to Productivity | Focusalot - Blog | Durff | Scoop.it

Vicky Davis is a blogger, author, and full-time teacher. She is the author ofReinventing Writing. Her blog aims to inform, engage, and inspire teachers and other educational professionals. Vicki’s writings have been featured on Mashable, Washington Post, Edutopia, and Forbes. Website: Cool Cat Teacher

1. What is your motivation to sit down everyday and write/do work?

I am passionate about my purpose: To inspire educators with excellent inspiration and information. I’m a full time teacher and so time is very scarce for me but it also is for the teachers and educators who gravitate to my blog- Cool Cat Teacher – and Internet Radio show – Every Classroom Matters. I let my struggles be fuel for great writing instead of dousing the flame.

2. How do you keep a regular writing schedule?

I get up at 5 am every morning except Sundays to pray and read my Bible. Then I write each and every day. It used to be blog posts but now I have tons of freelance writing and am working on my third book. I shoot for 1,000 words per day but there are times I hit more. When I’m working on books I use Scrivener and work on planes. I always have a copy of my current book on my kindle (Scrivener makes it easy to export in that format – then you just plug your kindle into the computer and move it onto the Kindle just like you would a jump drive.)

I also like to use Werdsmith on my ipad which is a text only tool with writing word count goals.

3. What do you do to increase productivity and avoid procrastination?

Word count word count word count — hey I just wrote 6 words (oops make that 16)  I track it, I count it. I shoot for it. I read Stephen King’s On Writing and tons of other books about the craft of writing. There’s only way way to write – WRITE. That said, I had two weeks this summer of 6,000+ words a day. That was too many, at least for me. I burnt myself out — not of writing but of the love of it. It was too much. Great writers need to get outside and disconnect and not be soooooo connected all the time. I did it to myself, though – I was writing guest posts promoting my newest book Reinventing Writing. The funny thing is — the day before I realized I had writers block I had just thought to myself — funny how I’ve never gotten writers block. In that case, I just moved through it and took some small tasks and did other things. Then, I didn’t wait until I felt like it, I waited until I felt a little more rested and then I just said – OK – I AM WRITING AGAIN. I don’t wait till I feel like it – I write because I love it. I write because I have people to inspire and there are a whole lot of children and educators out there who need someone to share the powerful story of how awesome education is and can be when you do it amazingly well.

What Will Learning Look Like in the Year 2024? #LRN2024 - David Kelly

What Will Learning Look Like in the Year 2024? #LRN2024 - David Kelly | Durff | Scoop.it

In a world where many of us are walking around with a computer in our pockets that is constantly connected to the internet, you could make the argument that “online” is already the default state. I don’t see it that way. In fact, I think today we’re just seeing the tip of the iceberg in terms of “online” being a default state.

First, what’s normal in the developed world in terms of devices and internet speeds is not a global standard. But in ten years we may actually see globally available mobile broadband access. That will fundamentally change the definition of learning for billions of people across the globe.

Second, today we don’t operate with an “always online” mindset. Even though our desktops and mobile phones are always online we more often than not operate with an offline mindset. Even the Load/Save document usage standard speaks to an outdated model when you have always on collaborative options like Google Documents. Hell, I still hear people use the phrase “online learning” as if we needed the qualifier.

We’re moving towards a culture where online is the default state. IN the very near future just about every device we own will have an internet connection and can both send and receive data. The implications for learning in a world where everything is online collecting data with computer processing power that can analyze that data in real time to provide individualized support are incredibly exciting. It may take a while, but I expect by the year 2024 we’ll see some of this potential being reached.

It's true that education is beginning to catch up with technology, though it saddens me that we're still talking about teachers making the transition from "sage on the stage" to "guide on the side." Even so, small steps forward are small steps in the right direction

Ivon Prefontaine's curator insight, September 9, 1:39 PM

Is it? Digital technologies are continuously changing. What does that mean about this catching up?
