A really simple method with great effect. Shoot rays from your building out and see if they reach a desired view. The grasshopper definition looks way too complicated. I still believe an actual script can be far more compact (I actually have written a very similar script to evaluate daylight availability: How much of the sky does a location on a building see? Same concept, different problem).

Another interesting potential for 3D printing. I have to admit that I had more questions than answers after reading the original paper linked from the article: Was this structurally tested? Would this ever be economical and competitive with traditional brick casting methods. Can this be optimised to create several identical bricks while maintaining variety in the undulation? If so, would it be more sensible to print moulds to cast identical bricks? How long would it take to 3D print a wall compared to a bricklayer creating the same wall?

This is quite promising. I saw the videos. Seems very easy to set up. I just hope it is accurate (to a point). It cannot simulate animated structures. You place a stationary object in the virtual wind tunnel and it simulates air flow etc.

Autodesk is moving rapidly to cloud-based solutions. I have mixed feelings about this: On the one hand the heavy lifting of analysis should be done in the cloud on powerful servers, but if you put all tasks in the hands of Autodesk services, you lose flexibility. I can do all the daylighting analysis right now very accurately within 3DS Max Design on-demand. I would not want to pay for each analysis run.

This surely is heartening news for structural engineers, architects, and anybody related to the construction industry in general. As anybody related to Building Performance Analysis (BPA) is going to tell you, the analysis part is one of the maximal time-consuming aspects.

 

With Revit coming to the aid of builders, now it becomes possible to bring down the overall time required ensuring savings and satisfaction.

This talks about the need to carefully look at the conversion of BIM to BPM (Building Performance Modelling). I believe it should be the other way around: We need to start with BPM and look at how it can convert to BIM. Conducting building performance should be conducted at all stages and especially in the early stages.
