JerUSAlem by Yoram Ettinger

In 2012, the leaders of the Democratic and Republican parties should heed the historical will of Americans, synchronizing the White House and the State Department with the reality that Jerusalem is Israel’s indivisible capital.

The Nazi teen and the occupation of Jerusalem by Burak Bekdil

The Nazi teen and the occupation of Jerusalem by Burak Bekdil | Martin Kramer on the Middle East | Scoop.it

The State of Israel, in the personality of Mr. Yishai, is behaving like the countries it criticizes of being undemocratic and intolerant. The travel ban looks not only childish but also self-denigrating. But let’s go back to the Occupation. Hardly a day passes in the Islamic world (or in the western intellectual world) without people standing up against and decrying the occupation of “al-Quds” (otherwise known as Jerusalem). In this column I have often argued otherwise: A counter-occupation is no occupation. Now, dear Islamists, I have a “witness” whom I guess you could hardly refute...

Giving up Jerusalem would mean end of Zionism by Ronen Shoval

Giving up Jerusalem would mean end of Zionism by Ronen Shoval | Martin Kramer on the Middle East | Scoop.it

Former prime minister Ehud Olmert said a few days ago: "It breaks my heart to initiate relinquishing sovereignty over the Temple Mount but there is no other choice." However, conceding the Temple Mount means opting for a one-way road that leads straight to the annihilation of Zionism. And the heart that will be broken will not be that of Olmert but rather that of the Jewish people.

The State Department's Jerusalem syndrome by Caroline Glick

I went to the US Consulate this week to take care of certain family business. It was a thoroughly unpleasant experience. I think it is ironic that two days after my extremely unpleasant experience at the consulate, State Department Spokeswoman Victoria Nuland refused to say what the capital of Israel is. It was ironic because anyone who visits the consulate knows that the US's position on Jerusalem is in perfect alignment with that of Israel's worst enemies.

A march of folly to Jerusalem by Ron Prosor

A march of folly to Jerusalem by Ron Prosor | Martin Kramer on the Middle East | Scoop.it

On Friday, some of the world’s most notorious terrorists, tyrants and radicals are organizing a mass attempt to violate Israel’s sovereignty, calling it a “Global March to Jerusalem.” They will march to the tune of revisionist history not seen since the pages of George Orwell’s 1984, accusing Israel of “Judaizing Jerusalem.” These accusations come about 3,000 years too late.

Claiming Jerusalem is in the Koran by Daniel Pipes

Claiming Jerusalem is in the Koran by Daniel Pipes | Martin Kramer on the Middle East | Scoop.it

How amusing is it to find a 142-page book on a non-existent subject, for Jerusalem is not in the Koran. I even have long-standing offer to pay US$1million to anyone who can locate mention of the city there, with no winner yet.

Karl Marx, the Jews of Jerusalem, and UNESCO by Shlomo Avineri

Karl Marx, the Jews of Jerusalem, and UNESCO by Shlomo Avineri | Martin Kramer on the Middle East | Scoop.it

The Soviet delegate—plainly a crude apparatchik—jumped up and shouted, "Forgery! This is a forgery! Karl Marx never wrote this!" In response, I took up the volume from which I was quoting and asked that it be noted that I was using the official Moscow Foreign Languages Publishing House edition of Marx's writings on colonialism, adding: "I am sure that our Soviet colleague is not suggesting that the official Soviet publishing house is falsifying the texts of Karl Marx."

Kramer on FB: Birkat Kohanim (Priestly Blessing), sight to see

Monday morning, the Passover Priestly Blessing (Birkat Kohanim) will take place at the Western Wall in Jerusalem. The ceremony evokes the era of the Temple, whose priests were commanded to bless the people. The Kohanim, their descendants, discharge the obligation. In this place (and on this massive scale), it’s a recent tradition, post-1967. The clip is from last Passover. For a closer view: http://goo.gl/jImDW.

March on Jerusalem Fizzles, The Investigative Project

There was nothing "out of the ordinary" about Friday's annual Palestinian protest of Land Day, the Israeli Defense Forces [IDF] spokesman said, despite predictions that 2 million Palestinians and activists would swamp Israel's security forces.

‘Global March to Jerusalem’: Hateful ignorance on parade by Jonathan Kay

‘Global March to Jerusalem’: Hateful ignorance on parade by Jonathan Kay | Martin Kramer on the Middle East | Scoop.it

Jews and Arabs likely will continue to fight over control of Jerusalem for many years. But let us dispense with the idea that the Israeli presence amounts to a “racist” desecration of an otherwise “peaceful” city. If the moral battle between Jews and Arab were fought on the basis of who governed Jerusalem in a more tolerant and civilized fashion, the victor would not be hard to choose.

State Department Spin on Jerusalem Meltdown is Already Wrong by Omri Ceren

This morning, the State Department will begin to walk back the spectacular meltdown that was yesterday’s press briefing, wherein State Department spokeswoman Victoria Nuland gave the Palestinians a de facto retroactive veto over Israel’s 1949 decision to make Jerusalem its capital.
