U. of Texas Deserves Kudos, Not Blame by Evelyn Gordon

As a country with more than enough real enemies, the last thing Israel needs is for its supporters to start attacking its friends. But that’s what seems to have happened to the University of Texas – which has been attacked as an anti-Israel boycotter for taking a courageous stand against the boycott.

Boycotts and books by Tom Rob Smith

In the last few days, I’ve been petitioned to boycott the International Writers' Festival in Jerusalem. The experience has been intense, although not yet aggressive. I’ve received numerous emails, tweets, messages posted on my Facebook page, sent to my agent, published on various blogs, requesting that I pull out. I might not be able to answer the question originally asked of me by this article — what is the role of a writer — but I am absolutely certain about the process of becoming a better writer. And it’s not achieved by staying at home.

Boycott kills U. of Texas project on women writers in the Middle East by Scott Jaschik

The anthology was to honor the late Elizabeth Fernea, who in her years at Texas had helped build up the study of the region and who promoted the publication in translation of works from the many countries there. In the last week, however, the project fell apart -- as the movement to boycott Israel in every possible way left Texas officials believing that they couldn't complete the work.
