Having a nice design slide for a presentation is one thing that so many presenters want to have. Adding the page with unique element such as moving image, transition, is a good idea.
These look like very useful tools for making presentations that are engaging.

Floyd Saner (organizer of the Midwest Moots over the past few years) is highlighting the Assignment Module enhancements in Moodle 2.7 and touched on a pretty unknown feature of the Assignment when simple grading is selected for an online text assignment. Did you know that you can do your grading offline (at the beach, at the cabin, on the back of a horse)?
Grading submissions, internet not required.

Case study offers advice for engaging faculty in online and blended learning initiatives
A new study from researchers at Drexel University and Armstrong Atlantic State University offers guidance on improving faculty participation and retention in online andblended education formats. Taking Armstrong Atlantic State University as a case study, the paper notes that faculty with little distance education experience may have preconceived negative attitudes toward online and blended education. AASU faced low faculty interest and participation in its online learning initiative, and undertook 4 initiatives to help win them over. The university held open sessions to make a strong case for online and blended learning; it renamed the Office of Online Learning the Office of Online & Blended Learning; it rebranded its online learning bootcamp as a “teaching fellows program,” and spread its duration out from 4 weeks to 8–12 weeks; and it launched an institutional study to identify and address factors that motivated and inhibited faculty participation. The report offers 8 recommendations for institutions looking to win faculty support for online and blended learning initiatives. Full Report

We’ve all been there. Whether it’s a picture of your friend’s new baby or your Aunt’s incessant updates about the weather in smalltown America, there are certain people in your social-media feeds that you’d like to just tune out for a bit (even just temporarily).
Social networks seem to be listening and have been rolling out features to help users regain a little bit of control of their social feeds without ruffling the feathers of any friends. The problem is each network has its own definition of tuning out someone, not to mention its own terminology.
To help you out, I combed some of the most popular social networks and muted/blocked/ignored/unfollowed everyone and everything I could. For a quick look, see our chart below. But we also have step-by-step pictures and an easy-to-follow guide for each network to make it easy to mute away.

Do educational apps and edtech replace the love of learning with an interest in pressing flashy buttons? Does technology make less motivated students?
American students have yet to embrace digital textbooks in considerable numbers. Many of the top universities and colleges have a very slim minority that either use them exclusively or in parallel with print. A recent survey by Hewlett Packard illiminates the role digital is playing in the classroom.
What is curation anyway, and how can it be used as a tool for student and teacher learning? This essay will investigate what curation is and the different contexts it is used in. Why is it important; who are the curators, what motivates them and what makes a great curator? What processes and tools are used for curation and what digital literacies are required for successful curation? It will conclude with an investigation into ways teachers can use curation both with and for their students and as a tool for their own professional learning and a brief look at some curation tools.
It is a reed that to be educated today is to be not just knowledgeable but to be able to share, enlighten others with what you know, to be a curator of knowledge. I am curious what Nik Peachey has to say about curation in his essay!
A really great essay - with many excellent references - on the process of curation, useful digital tools, and connections to professional development in education. Very informative.
to be clear about what is curation

One of the coolest tools for creating visual online content in recent years is the "whiteboard" video. These might work well with mature learners, but there is still a role for pedagogy. Another key point is are these really separate concepts or is it more likely they overlap along with pedagogy?
Interesting new takes to consider.
A variety of skills are needed to become a well-rounded individual. This supposes learning approaches tailored to facilitate acquisition of these skills.
Those who teach in the health disciplines expect their students to retain and apply every iota of learned material.
