Evaluating Websites as Information Sources

Evaluating Websites as Information Sources | Linguagem Virtual | Scoop.it
Studies suggest that many U.S. students are too trusting of information found on the internet and rarely evaluate the credibility of a website’s information. For example, a survey found that only 4 percent of middle school students reported checking the accuracy of information found on the web at school, and even fewer did so at home (New Literacies Research Team & Internet Reading Research Group, 2006).

Beyond Google: How to Perform SEO for Other Search Engines

Beyond Google: How to Perform SEO for Other Search Engines | Linguagem Virtual | Scoop.it
Unlike getting viral on social media, search engines can’t be pleased overnight.

But, once you’ve built authority in their eyes, then search traffic doesn’t fade away like other sources.

Search traffic is stable, scalable and free.

Most users do most of their web surfing through Google. The explosion in popularity of Google Chrome as a web browser means that users won’t see other search engines during their content discovery.

Google probably didn’t lose its mojo. Neither will it lose its monopolistic market share, any time soon.

But, it’s worth considering other search engines, like Bing and Yahoo for your enterprise. This is especially true, given that they get a higher conversion rate.

The corridor of uncertainty: So, what have MOOCs ever done for us? | Linguagem Virtual | Scoop.it
Whenever new ideas come to light there are always people who immediately dismiss them without really trying to even understand the innovation. Then when it doesn't immediately live up to initial promises they say "I told you so" and label it as yet another expensive flop. This is especially true in education and at the moment the MOOC is under heavy fire from all sides.

Voice Recognition Software Finally Beats Humans At Typing, Study Finds | Linguagem Virtual | Scoop.it

"Computers have already beaten us at chess, Jeopardy and Go, the ancient board game from Asia. And now, in the raging war with machines, human beings have lost yet another battle — over typing.

Turns out voice recognition software has improved to the point where it is significantly faster and more accurate at producing text on a mobile device than we are at typing on its keyboard. That's according to a new study by Stanford University, the University of Washington and Baidu, the Chinese Internet giant. The study ran tests in English and Mandarin Chinese."

3 tips to apply the levels of Processing Theory in eLearning course design

3 tips to apply the levels of Processing Theory in eLearning course design | Linguagem Virtual | Scoop.it
The Levels of Processing theory suggests that memory is simply a side effect of information processing. One of the things that sets the Levels of Processing apart from many other Instructional Design models and theories is that it does not rely on memory structures. In fact, it stipulates that there is no clear difference between long and short-term memory. Instead, the level of processing directly relates to the level of memory. According to Craik, learners remember more if they draw meaning from the information, and it has little to do with how much they analyze the content. Based on the Level of Processing, online learners process information on 3 levels that fall into 2 distinct categories:
