Do You have the Personality To Be an Inquiry-Based Teacher? | Linguagem Virtual | Scoop.it
If an inquiry-based system is to succeed, we’ll need really good human beings in the classroom who know their field, but who also radiate the kind of positive, non-judgmental love that helps students open their minds and hearts.

This is the best article I've seen on teaching methodology, or what works in the classroom. It shows the need to organize a class based around hard research evidence. When I've taught more of these strategies in my classes, I've always had more learning, more engagement, and a better class.

Tony Guzman's curator insight, May 22, 11:40 AM

This article and infographic shares 10 evidenced-based research strategies to help teach your students. This is a really good resource for any faculty member to review and consider.

Dr. Deborah Brennan's curator insight, May 22, 2:58 PM

These strategies are the essential foundation of what all good teachers do.  Every article and book that I have read about school improvement and effective teaching seems for focus on these same strategies.  We know it...but do we do it?  WITH FIDELITY?  I think that is often where it breaks down. These strategies need to be a part of EVERY lesson...EVERY day. They become highly effective when they are implemented consistently and intentionally.  With all teachers are required to do, it is easy to lose focus on intentionally using these effective strategies.

Moore's Law Keeps Going, Defying Expectations

Moore's Law Keeps Going, Defying Expectations | Linguagem Virtual | Scoop.it
SAN FRANCISCO—Personal computers, cellphones, self-driving cars—Gordon Moore predicted the invention of all these technologies half a century ago in a 1965 article for Electronics magazine. The enabling force behind those inventions would be computing power, and Moore laid out how he thought computing power would evolve over the coming decade. Last week the tech world celebrated his prediction here because it has held true with uncanny accuracy—for the past 50 years.

It is now called Moore’s law, although Moore (who co-founded the chip maker Intel) doesn’t much like the name. “For the first 20 years I couldn’t utter the term Moore’s law. It was embarrassing,” the 86-year-old visionary said in an interview with New York Times columnist Thomas Friedman at the gala event, held at Exploratorium science museum. “Finally, I got accustomed to it where now I could say it with a straight face.” He and Friedman chatted in front of a rapt audience, with Moore cracking jokes the whole time and doling out advice, like how once you’ve made one successful prediction, you should avoid making another. In the background Intel’s latest gadgets whirred quietly: collision-avoidance drones, dancing spider robots, a braille printer—technologies all made possible via advances in processing power anticipated by Moore’s law.

Top Ways to Use Technology in the Classroom

Top Ways to Use Technology in the Classroom | Linguagem Virtual | Scoop.it
Even though spring has arrived and summer is sure to follow it doesn’t mean that our brains aren’t still continually thinking of how to best serve our students. With technology everywhere, it’s hard not to think of ways that you can use technology in the classroom. Digital learning starts with teachers, we are the ones that get to choose how and what technology in the classroom to use. With so many choices out there, it’s hard to choose. Not everything is feasible or even appropriate for that matter. Here are a few ways to bring technology in the classroom safely and responsibly.

5 Free (or Low-Cost) Tools for Flipped Learning -- Campus Technology

5 Free (or Low-Cost) Tools for Flipped Learning -- Campus Technology | Linguagem Virtual | Scoop.it
Flipping the classroom typically requires the use of certain technology tools, whether for recording lecture content or for orchestrating classroom discussion.

Jon Bergmann, a pioneer of the flipped classroom and co-creator of FlippedClass.com, categorizes these tools into four different groups: video creation tools, like screencasting software; video hosting tools; interactive tools that help professors check for understanding and foster discussion among students; and learning management systems for tying all of this together.

Some products and services perform more than one of these functions — and a few do all four. FlippedClass.com includes a section with reviews of various flipped learning tools.

CT talked with a number of flipped learning experts, and here are some of their top recommendations for free or low-cost tools to get you started.
