Web 1.0 vs Web 2.0 vs Web 3.0 vs Web 4.0 vs Web 5.0 – A bird’s eye on the evolution and definition

Do you know the answer to the next simple question? "What do you know about web 2.0 technology?" What's so interesting about this video, is the simple fact that none of these so called digital natives are familiar with the term web 2.0. Although they never had a life without technology, they just don't know…

This article gives me hope that someday the Internet will be a real resource for specific information without the mountains of unnecessary information that doesn't really apply to my searches.

Preparing for the Impact of Web 3.0

.A lot of talk about the future of the internet sounds almost hippie-spiritual or faux-philosophical. The Internet is not the same as the world-wide-web. But the Internet-of-Things and the Semantic Web - all parts of Web 3.0, are beginning to be very important to our learning environments. Here is a summary of key features, ranging from access, creativity, and information architecture.

We'll reach a new state of web skills when we reinvent technology tools to better enhance our personal learning. We'll be at 3.0 when schools are everywhere and not viewed as daycare.

What Is Web 3.0, Really, and What Does It Mean for Education?

What Is Web 3.0, Really, and What Does It Mean for Education? | Cibereducação | Scoop.it

"The first rule of Web 3.0 is to stop calling it that. At least, that's Tim O'Reilly's preference... Although O'Reilly takes issue with the nomenclature, he does acknowledge — along with others who care deeply about the intersection of technology, teaching and learning — that the web is in the midst of an evolutionary cycle that's likely to spark profound changes in education. There are common threads in their predictions: widely available videos as educational tools, the blending of the physical and digital worlds, and a web that's capable of applying context to its processes. Many of these advancements aren't new, but they're becoming increasingly ubiquitous and far-reaching, transforming existing processes and offering new insights into everything from health to marketing to learning."

Designing For WHAT IF: Why Website Designers Are About TO DESIGN LESS

Designing For WHAT IF: Why Website Designers Are About TO DESIGN LESS | Cibereducação | Scoop.it

Working on http://www.curecancerstarter.org has been a lesson in web 3.0. Not QUITE here yet but BIG hints of What's Next include:

* The Cloud changes what and how we store.
* When you change what we store you change information architecture.
* You can see the beginning of "appification" of everything (smaller amounts of code executed faster and then updated frequently).
* Websites are becoming contingent on two THEMS (visitors and users of the Content Management System backend).

This last bullet is where the real design revolution lives. Once we design "what if, then..." contingent frameworks based on the needs of visitors (fully modeled based on personas and segments) and those using the CMS we've built we are DESIGNING less and THINKING more.

Each time we've placed limits on how our CMS will be used we've seen the need for LESS structure and more freedom. The logic of WHAT IT, THEN.... dictates a different approach to "designing a website".

This new approach will be less DESIGN and more flexibility, frameworks and user controlled functionality. Web designers, and this is not a new idea from me LOL, are becoming more like video game designers creating environments and contingent presentations.

So prepare to DESIGN less and LISTEN more as you use the new tools of web 3.0 to think in terms of contingencies and environments.

Preparing our students for Web 3.0 learning

How do we prepare out students for Web 3.0 learning? This slide show by Judy O'Connell provides us an opportunity to look back in time, from what we might refer to as Web 0 and the journey to where we are today and where we are heading. Many define Web 2.0 as the social web. Web 3.0 will be defined by data, and the ability to link data in new ways. Many excellent resources are embedded within this slide show, so find some time to pull up your chair and learn more about what the future may hold.
