Next Generation of Online Education: “Learn by Doing” in a Digital World

Next Generation of Online Education: “Learn by Doing” in a Digital World | Cibereducação | Scoop.it

Shifting to “Learn by Doing”

Becker of NMC says just as the role of the teacher is switching from “sage on the stage” to one of a coach or guide, there is a shift from rote to active learning. To foster skills of teamwork and collaboration, online education is incorporating group projects and hands-on labs to help students think more critically and retain the content.

Building on the concept of “learn by doing,” online education is expanding to connect students from around the world to learn together and meet professionals. Morris is also executive director of the Center for Interactive Learning and Collaboration, which partners with more than 200 cultural organizations, such as art museums, to offer real-time interaction with experts in various fields.

This exposure can help answer student questions about the relevance of a geometry class, for instance. “To answer the questions of why you are doing it is key,” says Morris. “[Students] are motivated when they understand and have a reason to understand the material.”

These Are The Top 5 Workplace Trends We'll See In 2017

These Are The Top 5 Workplace Trends We'll See In 2017 | Cibereducação | Scoop.it

This was a "remarkable" year for hiring, according to Glassdoor’s chief economist, Andrew Chamberlain. He says that the U.S. added an average 180,000 new jobs per month, well above the "break even" pace of job growth of 50,000 to 110,000 economists estimate the economy needs to keep Americans fully employed.

Pay is also on the rise. Median base pay for U.S. workers was up 3.1% from 2015, the fastest pace in three years. Can we top all that in 2017?

According to Glassdoor’s newest report on job trends, there are also a record number of unfilled jobs—5.85 million as of April—which represents the most since the BLS started tracking job openings in 2000. That’s compounded with the fact that every employer is hiring for tech roles, Chamberlain observes, and there are just so many talented candidates out there.

A great site for outlining the implementation of technology in the classroom. It outlines the most effective integration methods and appropriate situations for certain digital formats and platforms.

It details the need for personalised learning through flexibility, progression and individuality, all of which are based off modern learning methods. In specific regards to technology, this article explains:

- virtual classrooms

- audio and video integration

- data interpreting

- student mentoring

- transitioning from consumers to producers (more hands-on)

- truth vs untruth

- social environments of learning (an online presence)

- learning camps (a place to find individuality)

- transitioning through schools (students, environments and        teachers)

These ideas are important to consider, particularly for pre-service teachers like myself. These are key aspects to students being able to move forward in regards to technology, and this publication outlines all of that. The aspects which I found most beneficial, and that I could relate to were the transitioning from consumers to producers and teaching through transitions of the schooling system. Both of these promote a more hands-on classroom with students being able to apply their skills, while being taught and supported by their teacher.

Darren Schmidt's comment, May 14, 8:42 AM
Are these trends, and not technologies?

2017 Technology Trends

2017 Technology Trends | Cibereducação | Scoop.it
The technology industry is at the center of a continuing wave of digital innovation, and leading the way is a set of five U.S.-based supercompetitors: Alphabet, Amazon, Apple, Facebook, and Microsoft. Already dominant in their own fields, they are branching out into new businesses. But they face competition from the next tier of tech companies in the U.S. and China. Winning in the technology space is no longer simply a matter of filling a customer need with a new app. Companies need a clear strategic identity to stand out.

With a new year just around the corner, it’s time to take a look at the future direction of web design.

As technology advances and becomes more ingrained into every facet of our daily lives, users are demanding more and more from their online user experiences (UX).Personal, interactive, and relevant are three keywords which users want from their UX.

Data literacy with a strong dose of empathy
Belinda Parmar, Chief Executive Officer, The Empathy Business

Data is one of the driving forces of the Fourth Industrial Revolution. But sometimes, when we perceive the world through data-driven models, it can become harder to see the humanity behind the numbers. Technology thus has the potential to erode our sense of empathy.

The great challenge of the next 10 years for corporations and institutions will be to rebuild the empathy that we’ve lost. Companies will be looking for leaders who are able to help them do that – people with a trio of technical, linguistic and mathematical skills, who can make sense of the torrents of information that will continue to emerge.

Quick Look: 5 new technologies in classrooms today - | Cibereducação | Scoop.it
We associate creativity with art, storytelling, and music. Yet virtually every science and discipline involves creativity in some way. To this end, ensuring students are exposed to avenues of creativity remains key even outside of art hour.

Considering most kids today can’t fathom a world without smartphones and other computer-driven technology, it’s a good idea for educators to seize on technology as much as possible. With limited school budgets it’s not always easy, but with every passing year, it becomes more and more feasible for school systems to be outfitted with tech.

Teachers are increasingly able to use the following technological resources to not only educate in general, but to help students ignite their own creativity.
