Why Brands Will Start Buying Media Companies

Why Brands Will Start Buying Media Companies | lifeviakeyboard | Scoop.it

Stay with me on this one. It's no secret that brands are getting into the publishing business. More and more companies are developing content marketing programs that are powering websites.

Via David Patton
Naved Farooqui's insight:

Makes for a very interesting read. Albeit examples cited may work as good examples as future of media acquisition, it also leaves aside room for the new age media arising. Trust is the factor that gets established over time. and media relies on trust. It's best traditional media companies sell out to capture maximum value of their businesses as after this peak, the value will erode drastically. we saw this in case of Nokia, Blackberry,...this may as well follow suite.

David Patton's curator insight, March 5, 2014 5:27 PM

There are two things that publishers and media companies have that brands want and need. The first is the capability to tell stories. The second is that media companies come with built-in audiences.

The problem with data journalism - Quartz

The problem with data journalism - Quartz | lifeviakeyboard | Scoop.it
The problem with data journalism Quartz The recent boom in “data-driven” journalism projects is exciting. It can elevate our knowledge, enliven statistics, and make us all more numerate.
Naved Farooqui's insight:
While the author makes us aware of the biases that one can bring in while interpreting the data , what is crucial is the examples where she highlights how a good interpretation of data can actually throw a clearer and bigger picture. isn't that what data journalism is espousing anyway. I thought that was it and not the various listicles that are getting passed around for journalism.

Google Just Unveiled Its Next Big Wearable Computing Platform

Google Just Unveiled Its Next Big Wearable Computing Platform | lifeviakeyboard | Scoop.it
Google today unveiled its new initiative for wearables called Android Wear.

Via Reginald Shipman
Naved Farooqui's insight:

I think the guys at Google got this round and have taken the lead from Apple and Samsung. As Samsung developed its own OS for the wearable tech, it was anybody's guess that the fight for the OS will determine the future of the hardware too. Follow this with the Motorola sale (w/o patents ) to lenovo. and then that subtle investment in Lenovo that ensures that they have their hands in the hardware market without really upsetting samsung.....this space is getting interesting and how......at the end....consumer will definitely be the winner.

Little Data vs. Big Data: Nine Types of Data and How They Should Be Used - Profs | #TheMarketingTechAlert

Little Data vs. Big Data: Nine Types of Data and How They Should Be Used - Profs | #TheMarketingTechAlert | lifeviakeyboard | Scoop.it
Advanced/ Digest... Here's a point of view on the trustworthiness of various types of data, ranked from most trustworthy to least. 1. Experimental data 2. Survey research data 3. Marketing-mix modeling data The creation of an analytical database, the cleansing and normalizing of that data, and the use of multivariate statistics and modeling to isolate and neutralize some of the noise tend to make marketing-mix modeling data better than actual sales data. 4. Media-Mix Modeling Data 5. Sales Data 6. Eye-Tracking Data 7. Biometric or Physiological Measurements 8. Communities or Advisory Panel Data 9. Social Media Data Corporate decision-makers often would be better served if they rely on tried-and-true tools and systems from the world of Little Data, rather than illusions from Big Data. Sampling theory teaches that if the sample is random, one can measure the behavior or mood of the whole by talking to very few people. ____________________________________________________ ► Receive a FREE daily summary of The Marketing Technology Alert directly to your inbox.
