HOW TO CULTIVATE EMPATHY

We all have the capacity for empathy.  As human beings we are literally wired for it.  But that doesn’t mean we’re off the hook: as with any skill, empathy must be nurtured and practiced.  And in that, we can all play a role.  Empathy begins and ends in our relationships with others.  Each day presents us with dozens of opportunities to model it – with our children, our friends, our colleagues. Here you'll discover tips, practices, and profiles of game-changing educators and innovators to help you more effectively cultivate empathy, starting right now.

Leading through Negativity

Leading through Negativity | Life Long Learner | Scoop.it

...this may be due to something called the the negativity bias, a psychological phenomenon by which humans pay more attention to, and give more weight to, negative experiences.

There is scientific research showing that we are in a “negativity-handicap” on a daily basis because others will focus on our flaws or mistakes instead of focusing on what we do well or what we can achieve by leveraging our strengths and learning from our mistakes.

~Share Vulnerability – address key truth statements and establish new behavior ground rules to address those truth statements in a positive way

~Find Swim Buddies – create “partners” to hold each other accountable for behavior changes
