5 Ways to Lead with Emotional Intelligence -- and Boost Productivity

5 Ways to Lead with Emotional Intelligence -- and Boost Productivity | Business Brainpower with the Human Touch | Scoop.it

Employees today are much more aware of whether or not they are a good fit in their workplace culture and they want their leaders to be more mindful of their needs. In general, employees have become more sensitive about how to best co-exist in a workplace environment that allows them to be who they naturally are. Employees are tired of playing games and just want to be themselves. As such, they are managing their careers and looking to advance by searching for jobs that truly fuel their passion, fulfill their desires, and ignite their real talent. For most, today’s economic landscape has made the career management journey extra challenging. And beyond career advancement opportunities, people want their supervisors and leaders to be more in touch with who they are as people (not just as their colleagues) to assure that their career track is in proper alignment with and supports their personal and professional goals.

The Only Two Rules You Need To Know To Be Successful In Work And Life

The Only Two Rules You Need To Know To Be Successful In Work And Life | Business Brainpower with the Human Touch | Scoop.it

There are three skills you need to be financially successful: making money, keeping money, growing money. James Altucher is mostly only good at making money.

"I’ve had several instances where I’ve started a business, sold it, made a lot of money, and then basically lost everything I made, whether it was $50 million or $5 million or whatever," he tells Fast Company. "I always have a tendency to lose everything I made."

There are some simple rules, like drink coffee first thing in the morning and 20 minutes before you write so that it "sets your brain on fire, makes you go to the bathroom, cleans your body out before you set your heart on fire." Then, there’s his 30% rule, which basically says that everyone should cut or rewrite at least 30% of their masterpiece after they think they’ve finished it.

7 Ways to Stop Procrastinating and Start Getting Stuff Done

7 Ways to Stop Procrastinating and Start Getting Stuff Done | Business Brainpower with the Human Touch | Scoop.it

If you're like many of my clients prior to them seeing me, you might have a hard time getting started with projects and completing tasks. Maybe you do everything but what you need to be doing. Perhaps you watch TV instead of cleaning your house. You socialize instead of finishing a work project, or surf the Internet instead of writing that business plan you've been meaning to do for the longest time.

You essentially avoid that which you deem to be uncomfortable. It’s an adaptive response to stress, fear, and anxiety. The problem with this tactic is, by putting off an important task, it ultimately leads to more stress, greater fear, more anxiety — and of course not completing the task.

This procrastination can lead to feelings of guilt, inadequacy, and depression — all of which can kill motivation and creativity and perpetuate the unproductive cycle. Poor time management, feeling overwhelmed, unrealistic standards, or just plain laziness are a few possible reasons for procrastination.

Vicki Kossoff @ The Learning Factor's insight:

Are you tired of stressing out over your growing to-do list? Learn how to finally get stuff done and be more productive.

5 Ways to Handle a High Pressure Meeting | Business Brainpower with the Human Touch | Scoop.it

It's easy to let even a simple meeting get out of hand. Maintaining control is important; the room can sense when you are flustered, you easily forget your train of thought and control over the outcome.

I used some of the following techniques to maintain control over the meeting and bring the team back to a successful conclusion:

Slow It Down

It is common to increase your speech when you are nervous. To truly connect with your audience, you must slow down instead and control the speed of the discussion.
