Welll, don't be too intimidated or even bored by the long list... they are perls... OK, you've met perhaps even each (don't think so but might be...) but it's such a goog arrangements to have them together and need nt read a whole book (though there are recommendations within about some)... it is worth even to copy it out to recheck them from time to time... good reading and thinking about them....

15 Web Alternatives to Popular Desktop Software

15 Web Alternatives to Popular Desktop Software | Business Brainpower with the Human Touch | Scoop.it

Web applications have come a long way. They used to be amateur imitations of their desktop counterparts, with only one or two functions and not at all practical. But my, have these web apps grown. Web apps these days have become so powerful and useful that in some cases, they’ve begun to replace desktop software.

Desktop programs are great and all, but they don’t provide the same benefits as web apps that make use of cloud computing. With most web apps, you only need a browser and an internet connection to access all your data online. That beats having to install annoying programs any day. To give you a better sense of how useful web apps have become, I’ve compiled a list of web tools and apps that can very well replace some desktop programs. I hope you take the time to try them all out. You’ll be surprised how well they work.

Without further ado, here are some great web alternatives to the popular desktop programs we all love.

What Makes a Great Boss?

What Makes a Great Boss? | Business Brainpower with the Human Touch | Scoop.it

What’s the value of a good boss? When the boss in question is a CEO, the question’s been the subject of a lot of scrutiny. But the role of less exalted front-line supervisors—the folks who directly oversee teams of workers—has been much less scrutinized. Do supervisors vary in quality? How valuable is a good one? And what makes a good supervisor good? These are questions that preoccupy people in their daily work lives but haven’t been the subject of much formal economics research. But Kathryn Shaw and Edward Lazear of Stanford’s Graduate School of Business recently teamed up with the University of Utah’s Christopher Stanton to explore the subject in a working paper called “The Value of Bosses.”

Making Decisions that Matter | How improving executive decision making can lead to better business outcomes

Making Decisions that Matter | How improving executive decision making can lead to better business outcomes | Business Brainpower with the Human Touch | Scoop.it

If you were to assign your executive team a grade for decision effectiveness, what letter would you give? A+, C or F.

How effective is the C-Suite at making decisions?
A well-run organization must be able to make swift, high quality decisions that support the execution of its overall strategy and meet its financial targets. Yet many executive teams have not established a clear decision-making framework with defined decision-making rights that translate throughout the enterprise.

Too often, unclear decision rights result in misalignment among leaders, causing competition, power struggles and ultimately hindering an organization’s ability to make good decisions.

Why do people regularly see good leaders make bad decisions?

Poor decision processes are further compounded because leaders do not understand their own individual biases in decision making, let alone the dynamics that impact decisions when their leadership team comes together to make group decisions. The recent popularity of books on behavioral economics such as “Thinking Fast and Slow” “Predictably Irrational” and “Nudge” has drawn renewed attention to the flawed nature of individual and group judgment when it comes to making decisions. Behavioral biases can be cognitive or emotional, individual or collective, conscious or automatic...and for a blunder, combine several of them!

Understanding decision-making biases and ways to overcome them can aid in getting decision-making ‘right’ in the C-Suite.
