Is Self-Doubt Holding You Back? 5 Ways To Build Confidence And Banish Doubt | Business Brainpower with the Human Touch | Scoop.it

The problem with self-doubt is that the fear it creates stops us from living the lives we most want and changing the things we don’t.  How?  Fear keeps us living small and stuck in jobs that don’t fulfill us but feel safe.  But is there really anything safe about living a life where you feel disengaged, disillusioned or desperate to be doing something else? of course not. The truth is that who you are is not your doubts. The key to banishing them isn’t to wish them away, but to take action in their presence.

It’s easy to mislead ourselves into thinking that if we just had the success we wanted, then we’d never doubt ourselves again and ooze the confidence we see in others.  But it actually works in reverse.

Vicki Kossoff @ The Learning Factor's insight:

If you find yourself plagued by self-doubt, you’re not alone. In fact, one study of managers by the European Institute for Leadership and Management revealed that 50% of female managers and 31% of male managers admitted to experiencing self-doubt.

16 Things You Need To Stop Being Afraid Of; Fear Can Hold You Back From Being The Person You Are Meant To Be.

16 Things You Need To Stop Being Afraid Of; Fear Can Hold You Back From Being The Person You Are Meant To Be. | Business Brainpower with the Human Touch | Scoop.it
Vicki Kossoff @ The Learning Factor's insight:

Remember what Morgan Freeman’s character in The Shawshank Redemption said: “Terrible thing, to live in fear.” Fear can hold you back from being the person you’re meant to be.

Some of these won’t apply to you, but perhaps some will. Here are 16 things some people need to stop being afraid of.

1. Hard work

I’m not ragging on young people as a bunch of entitled loafers here. I am one of the laziest people I know to the point of almost being "too lazy to fail". Heaven help me if I ever won the lottery. My life would go to hell it rapid fashion.

But there is a plague of “quick” and “easy” upon society, and I’m not just talking about the fitness industry.

8 Really Effective Tricks to Boost Your Courage | Business Brainpower with the Human Touch | Scoop.it

Is fear holding you back from trying something new or going after what you really want? Here are some ways to get past it.

I hate fear. Fear has cost me a hefty sum in dental bills from grinding my teeth. Fear interferes with sleep, digestion, and many other things that make life worth living. When you examine some of the worst things human beings have done, you'll often find fear as the root cause. There's no doubt about it: Fear sucks.

Here's what's worked best for me over the years. (And if you've found something else that works, I'd love to hear it!)

1. Ask yourself: Should I take action to solve this fear?

Vicki Kossoff @ The Learning Factor's insight:

No doubt about it, fear sucks. Here's how to put it in its place.

Turn Fear Into Success

Turn Fear Into Success | Business Brainpower with the Human Touch | Scoop.it

Fear is a huge problem in business today, with many employees afraid to do anything that might put their jobs at risk. So what can a smart leader do to get employees to let go of their fears and give everything they've got to the organisation? The best approach is to reward your people for thinking outside the box, taking chances and pushing the organisation's limits.

Fear is a motivator. It drives me as a companion to my passion. While getting excited about new opportunities and challenges, fear motivates me to be diligent and plan. Fear of a competitor can motivate me to think more creatively or work harder. While massive fear can be debilitating, ultimately I need a healthy dose of fear in my life to make me appreciate the challenges I overcome.
