What Successful Night Owls Get Done Before Bed

Since I have been living in Moscow I have seen a shift in working hours compared to the US. In Russia people work late at night 11pm-1am and go late at work around 10:30 am. In the US many people are at work at 6:30 am and stay around 6-7pm

Early birds get all the credit. Research indicates that morning people tend to be more active and goal oriented, and such larks as Steve Jobs, Craig Newmark of Craigslist, and 25-year old David Karp, founder of the Tumblr blogging platform suggest that climbing the ladder of success is easier before breakfast.

So does that mean night owls are at a disadvantage? Research by Satoshi Kanazawa and colleagues at the London School of Economics and Political Science suggests no.

What counts is the number of hours of sleep, 8 hours is optimum for me and I  have to sleep before 11 am for best performance. When I write my goals and plans for the next day before going to bed I increase my effectiveness.

U.S. Good exports to Russian totaled just $11 billion in 2013

Russia doesn't rank among the top 15 U.S. trading partners, according to the Commerce Department.

So far this year, total trade with Russia ranks just ahead of Ireland, and behind that of Colombia and Thailand.

Russia supplies oil, metals and fertilizer to the U.S. and imports American machinery, vehicles and food.

Europeans are much more dependent than the U.S. on imports and exports with Russia:

Up to 75% of Foreign Direct Investment stocks in Russia come from EU Member States

Russia is the third trading partner of the EU and the EU is the first trading partner of Russia.

Prepare for a Moscow culture shock

Prepare for a Moscow culture shock | Life in Moscow From an Expat Perspective | Scoop.it
Although Moscow is an international city, it is still a very foreign environment for most expats
Anne Egros's insight:

For my second winter in Moscow, I found it more dificult to adapt to Russia compared to other countries such as Japan or United States. Maybe because of the language barrier: I am fluent in English and I spoke Japanese well enough when I lived there.

Some other specific reasons are given in the article.

The "How Are You?" Culture Clash: Americans v.s Russians

The "How Are You?" Culture Clash: Americans v.s Russians | Life in Moscow From an Expat Perspective | Scoop.it
Americans are “fine.” Ask a Russian, and you’ll get much more: the truth.
Anne Egros's insight:

A very good picture of what means "how are you ?

"The question in question is, “How are you?”

The answer Americans give, of course is, “Fine.” But when Russians hear this they think one of two things: (1) you’ve been granted a heavenly reprieve from the wearisome grind that all but defines the human condition and as a result are experiencing a rare and sublime moment of fineness or (2) you are lying".
