New When your library is temporarily closed for whatever reason . . . – Stephen's Lighthouse

New When your library is temporarily closed for whatever reason . . . – Stephen's Lighthouse | LibraryLinks LiensBiblio | Scoop.it

Why do library notices about open hours too often say they’re closed at some time due to statutory holidays/floods/blackouts/staff training, instead of adding that they’re open online 24/7/365 online too? Time for a re-think about notices as positive marketing in a virtual world – especially on Facebook, Twitter, websites, etc.

Part of my job as a librarian is reading stories aloud, though unlike my colleagues, I read them to grown-ups, and the stories often involve murder, extramarital affairs, and the occasional cannibal feast. From having read aloud myself, I’m very aware of just how skilled professional audiobook narrators truly are. Here are some of my favorite male audiobook readers whose pipes and talent I would kill to have.

How schools can combat the summer holiday literacy dip

How schools can combat the summer holiday literacy dip | LibraryLinks LiensBiblio | Scoop.it

Over the last 14 years, we have researched the Challenge's impact and proved that it widens children's reading range and massively improves their confidence - 90% of participants feel they are "better readers". It helps combat the summer holiday dip in literacy skills, and participants return to school more motivated to learn and read. For many families it is transformational - there's an annual flood of positive feedback.
