The Top 50 Apps for Kids: Our favorite picks for education, music, art, and more! at Babble

The Top 50 Apps for Kids: Our favorite picks for education, music, art, and more! at Babble | Library Tools for You! | Scoop.it

"For Babble's annual roundup of the 50 best apps for kids, we looked at some basic criteria that you and your family might also consider before downloading an app. Every app we tested had to have received an age-appropriate rating ("4+" in Apple's case; "Everyone" in Google's). We also considered whether the app allowed parents to participate in, or at least oversee, whatever their kids were doing onscreen. In addition, even if the apps were designed to do nothing more than keep kids busy while you're in line at the store, there had to be some positive or educational element to them."

Study Smarter – Take Notes And Highlight Text Within iBooks [iOS Tips] | Cult of Mac

Study Smarter – Take Notes And Highlight Text Within iBooks [iOS Tips] | Cult of Mac | Library Tools for You! | Scoop.it

Ebooks are all the rage these days, and your iPad is a perfect device for reading them. Textbooks, too, are becoming de riguer for many students in college and even high school, as educators, schools, and publishers find a greater demand for electronic instructional materials.

But studying from a book requires interacting with the text at a greater level than just reading it, of course, as students need to keep track of specific passages, or comment on them as they relate to their learning or lecture notes. Most eReading apps, like Nook and Kindle, have these features as well, but iBooks definitely has the most well designed, so let’s take a look at how to use it to study with your electronic books."

iBooks not only speaks the selection but it can also highlight text in different colors and create notes. Great way to provide the tools for using reading strategies to electronic text.

Creating ePub books in apps like Pages, Creative Book Builder allows you to create your own texts for students.

Steven Blomdale's curator insight, March 8, 2013 6:18 PM

This is a useful workshop for Special education teachers to learn more about digital technologies to support special needs students. Integrating technology into is an important aspect when supporting students in a special education classroom. Special education teachers develop students ICT capabilities through exposing students to adapt to new ways of doing things as technologies evolve (ACARA, 2013). Students learn to use ICT effectively and appropriately to access, create and communicate information and ideas, solve problems and work collaboratively, and in their lives beyond school. Consequently development of this capability is achieved through effectively engaging students in learning to make the most of the digital technologies available to them (ACARA, 2013)

A clever literacy station activity, that implements technology in the way of Ipads.  Very simple, suitable for younger and older students alike to practice their skills with a common found technology resources in classrooms today.

Kellee Dunn's comment, June 10, 2013 11:26 PM
Hi Sophie, I just viewed this resource and found it to be very clever. Activity stations are a popular and fun way to get students actively engaged in the task. This is a technologically creative way for students to showcase and explain their work instead of just drawing and writing in their notebooks.

t’s an age-old saying, “Give a man a fish, and feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish, and feed him for a lifetime.”

What separates good teachers from the excellent ones? The excellent ones are handing out fishing poles; creating a culture in the classroom of independence and self-reliance. These students don’t just recite facts or regurgitate information- they have learned how to learn. They know that if the answer isn’t in front of them, they have the tools to do the investigation and research.

So how do you cultivate a culture of “I can…” in your classroom?

It seems as though African countries are actually trying to go back to their pre-colonial boundaries. The agreement they made to respect the old colonial borders to avoid war has never been effective.
