Dr. Theresa Kauffman's curator insight, November 16, 2015 10:10 AM

It is so important to meet the student's needs, whatever that may be, to improve learning goals. We must look at the whole child and not just the brain to meet their needs.

The Future Belongs to the Curious: How Are We Bringing Curiosity Into School?

The Future Belongs to the Curious: How Are We Bringing Curiosity Into School? | library life | Scoop.it

The only rational answer to the conundrum of curiosity is to disengage our educational system from standardized testing and common curricula. Curiosity does not hold up well under intense expectation. Give agency to teachers, with the explicit message to slow down and provide students time to wonder and be curious.

How to Build Your Makerspace (EdSurge Guides)

How to Build Your Makerspace (EdSurge Guides) | library life | Scoop.it
Learning by making has been around since long before edtech—just think about what the adventurous explorers or intrepid settlers of yore would have thought of "Do-It-Yourself." But with thousands of kid-friendly tech tools and a whole World Wide Web of resources out there, creative, interesting opportunities for learning-by-making abound for everyone.

Okay, so with all those resources, where should you start to build a makerspace? Here at EdSurge, we've rolled up our sleeves, put on our protective goggles, and built a Maker Guide from scratch, just for you.

Read on for ideas from the educators and entrepreneurs who think making 24/7, including what is involved with project-based learning and making in the classroom and tried-and-true lessons from the field on starting your makerspace.

Making on a budget? We surely do. We've got ideas for stocking your space with resources from your arts and crafts closet, plus inspiration from educators working to bring makerspaces to low-income and all-girls classrooms.

What Technology Will Look Like In Five Years

What Technology Will Look Like In Five Years | library life | Scoop.it
Rather than gauging if the toilet has enough water, the soap bottle is full enough and the lights are the perfect level, your smart bathroom can ask, “How was your visit?” You can say “Good,” or perhaps, “Bad — there wasn’t enough soap.” This eliminates the need for so much tracking, and makes the experience feel more human. Ultimately, our devices will rely on our feedback just as much as data.
