Books for Boys that Aren't “Books for Boys” | The Hub

"I realized it doesn’t matter if a book is “for” a guy or a girl; the gender of the intended audience tends to get all mixed up when you factor in the power of a good story. Boys like stories; girls like stories. Readers in general like stories. We need to forget what we think about boys and reading and find them the stories they want."

All this needs is some Australian content - Seven Little Australians, The Magic Pudding, Shy the Platypus, Ivan Southall, Nan Chauncy, Patricia Wrightson, Graeme Base, Garth Nix, Melina Marchetta, Libby Gleeson, etcetera. Will have to sort that out some day.

This article helped me decide on what books I needed to research when writing my book. It also showed me how important books are to young children. It was also pretty cool seeing how children's books will change in the future.
