Looks like this company has delivered on the great idea of making the creation of apps accessible to all. They have an education focus. I look forward to sitting down and doing some serious testing with this.  Great implications for project based teaching and engagement. In library, learning commons and across campus.

Looks interesting. I wonder how it compares to AppInventor from MIT. http://www.appinventor.org/ ;

ElizabethHS's curator insight, December 5, 2013 9:36 AM

From Nik Peachey's "Commercial Software and Apps for Learning" -- but this one is free for students and teachers.

I'm interested in how many apps there now are to help students program their own content into games. Another step toward gamification. Also, most of these apps are cross-platform, iWorld and Android.

Web Literacy Map - 1.1.0 - Mozilla Webmaker

Ryer Banta's insight:
As ACRL moves forward with their new framework and libraries work to translate to their local needs this could be a good source to keep in mind. I really like how they broke the skills and dispositions down, but kept it pretty easy to understand. Plus, many of these skills have direct overlap with what we already do, and what we can aspire to teach. My library has been working hard to develop learning outcomes that span the library and our learning commons partners - which brings in a great mix of expertise, skill, learning opportunity, and services. Think I will keep this document in mind as we continue to develop those.

Learning Measurement for Analytics Whitepaper

Via Rebecca Frazee
Ryer Banta's insight:
I've given this a quick read through, but need some more time with it to fully understand exactly what is being proposed and the implications. That said, seems to be about a proposed framework that is intended to measure student learning and progress. There are many details around events that can automatically be captured by program - such as page views and time on page. This kind of data has some value, but doesn't always tell the full story. Plus user behavior can quickly throw measurements off - for example, a student opens a page, then takes a half hour phone call, then comes back. Of course systems are getting better and better with these measurements. Still it is one part of the story, so these models do include more summaries and formative assessment pieces. There just isn't as much detail, probably to allow for many different contexts. Anyhow, this could be good for us to look at within the context of learning commons outcomes revision work.
