Great Resources to Teach Students about Plagiarism and Citation Styles ~ Educational Technology and Mobile Learning

Great Resources to Teach Students about Plagiarism and Citation Styles ~ Educational Technology and Mobile Learning | Library Gems for All Ages | Scoop.it

One of my favourite sources for information and guidelines regarding referencing and citation styles is the Purdue Online Writing Lab (OWL). I have heard several professors (in the humanities, at least) recommend it to graduate students. But there are also several other resources student researchers and academics can draw on to hone in their research writing skills. This page from Plagiarism.org features a plethora of excellent materials and citation sources that are all available online or in the form of PDF documents , free to download and use.

Teacher librarians should be charting a new course in every school district. Period. The end. Full stop. Why? Because librarians, by virtue of their natural curiosity, tend to be at the forefront of many things digital. They'll do the research and experimentation on their own. They'll collaborate with their colleagues around the country, even around the world, because they truly understand the value of that collaboration. They are at the ready to partner with teachers to complement the teacher's work or even take some of the workload that might make more sense to be done by the teacher librarian and in the library. The teacher librarian is, in every sense of the phrase, an "information specialist." Other educators ignore this resource at their peril.

There are several teacher librarians you should know: @Shannon McClintock Miller, @GwynethJones(The Daring Librarian), @Joyce Valenzaare some of them. But there's also Carl Harvey (@caharvey2) and Tiffany Whitehead (@librarian_tiff). Find their blogs, follow them on Twitter, and go introduce yourself to your school teacher librarian to start figuring out to apply the skills, talent, and knowledge for your students' learning. Go. Now.
