Librarians, you can think of using a blended model for some of the professional development you offer.  Possibly you begin a workshop with some face to face time.  Then move online to continue your conversation through Edmodo, a blog, a Facebook page, etc.  Later, you can consider meeting again face to face to showcase the learning.

Mia MacMeekin recently posted a new infographic that helps students learn how to determine if online resources are reliable. It is split into four sections, and each section has seven questions. The four sections are:

* Who wrote it?

* What is it for?

* Why was it written?

* When was it written?

With the additional questions students should be able to determine if the site is relevant to their research, and use critical thinking skills as they come to their decision.

This is an area where many students struggle, and this visual may help them become more comfortable in learning how to evaluate information.

I love this statement: If anything, the internet has added to the range of services libraries provide and in turn this has also increased the variety of roles available to librarians.

While we in the profession know that to be true, it is difficult to make that known to the casual user (or the school administrator or state legislators). This would be an excellent article to keep on hand when that person comes in and comments on how nice it is to have a job where you can read all day...
