Research: Use Whiteboard Videos In Education To Get The Message To Stick | library | Scoop.it

Why Use Whiteboard Videos In Education? We have this big challenge today, in how to engage people when technology actually is competing for their attention in so many different ways. One of the things we can learn from, is the research into whiteboard videos.

What are Whiteboard videos?

A video of someone writing on a whiteboard (such as writing animations).

Why are they popular?

They are entertaining and fun. Plus they keep people's attention, up to 15% more than "talking head" videos or PowerPoints. Check out a whiteboard video explaining why they're popular.

Haiku Deck provides a clean and crisp user interface to craft a powerful presentation. The photo gallery is extremely large and gives a great deal of variety to users.

Having seen this tool incorporated into a SMLE on this week's discussion board I was curious. Now I'm impressed.

Janna Mattson's curator insight, March 5, 1:31 PM

The new templates are impressive! I looked into Haiku Deck a few years back, but it seemed limited in terms of other presentation tools available. Now I see much more affordability in using the tool.

Alejandro Escribano's curator insight, February 26, 8:41 AM

24 February 2015, by Monti Aguirre

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Press Release: Coca Cola Sued by Chilean artist Alejandro Escribano for Art Plagiarism.

We wish to report a criminal complaint filed by plagiarism against Coca-Cola Company. This is the exact reproduction of a painting mural that was destroyed by the tsunami of February 27, 2010 in the town of Dichato, Chile. The mural was duly registered with the Department of Intellectual Rights Dibam 2012. The lawsuit, filed in 2014, was admitted to processing and an order to investigate the Brigade Police Crime Investigation Tome emanated by the Local Prosecutor of that Commune. Next March 10, 2015 will be the first hearing took between artist Alejandro Escribano and his counsel and offended and representatives of Coca-Cola suspicion of plagiarism. The photographs of the original and plagiarism are awesome. Attached comparative photographs of the work. The copy was made without the permission of the artist, not even his name or authorship is mentioned, which is clearly an offense under Law 17.336 on intellectual property in Chile.

Sadness gives remember the harsh treatment that exerts justice against humble people who pirate movies and hesitant to act when faced with large companies.

Using Wikipedia in information literacy instruction

As an information literacy instructor at Auburn University, it has been a perpetual struggle to teach students how to successfully search for library resources when they come to their one-time library sessions with only a broad paper topic and no idea how to narrow it down. A student recently told me regarding an English composition due in a few days, “The topic is so broad, I can’t pick an argument. I don’t even know where to start.” I began encouraging students to use a resource that they feel comfortable with as a starting point—Wikipedia.

Elizabeth Hutchinson's curator insight, January 25, 2014 8:41 AM

It is better to be positive about something that students use rather than negative. As long as they know the pitfalls it is a good place to start. Just not the place to stay!
