Academic Library Autopsy Report, 2050

Academic Library Autopsy Report, 2050 | Library and Information Science (Singapore) | Scoop.it
Audacious denial in the face of increasingly severe symptoms led to the library's deterioration and demise. Just read the autopsy report.
Hazman Aziz's insight:

Book collections became obsolete - Disagreed. In fact, it will become more sophisticated and complex, especially with the emerging technology involved. This is from a product development point of view (from a librarian to a product technology)

Library instruction was no longer necessary - Disagreed too. It changes the landscape in instructional and a emerging of two/three hats might happened between instructional, scholarly communication and technology, where traditional librarianship knowledge will be needs to re-morphed.

The rest of the point listed, yups, more likely I am agreed it. as we are seeing it now. The shifted trending.

Interlibrary loans in an eBook world | SwetsBlog

Interlibrary loans in an eBook world | SwetsBlog | Library and Information Science (Singapore) | Scoop.it
Highlighting the main problems associated with Interlibrary loan in the age of eBooks. It seems short-term licensing via PDA might be the solution.
Hazman Aziz's insight:

A major player it the eBook aggregator world, MyiLibrary (owned by Ingram), announced a partnership with OCLC in 2011. They had approved a selection of eBook titles that would be available for short term loan access at a lending library. This currently consists of around 30,000 titles across some of the major STM publishers.

This is a great start, but the overall size of MyiLibrary, with 500k eBook records, overshadows these initial efforts. It’s clear to see that publishers are in the driving seat in this situation, as they try hard to preserve their intellectual property while trying to maximize sales.

It is always interesting to read the predictions laid forth by institutions, organizations and individuals around December/January time each year, as they decide what they feel will be important in the industry for the year ahead. Now that the New Year is fully underway and things have calmed down somewhat, we have decided to take a few of these lists and frame them together in a review piece on the trends in academic publishing and libraries. Easy eBook Selection and Acquisition

Easy eBook Selection and Acquisition | Library and Information Science (Singapore) | Scoop.it
Hazman Aziz's insight:
Simplify your eBook purchases using SwetsWise
Purchasing eBooks can be time consuming; sometimes it’s difficult to ascertain if a particular title is even available as an eBook. Lack of agreement on industry standards, varied platform features and subtly different use of language when describing licenses, are just some of the issues that make it difficult to see exactly what you’re purchasing. You may find it difficult to compare one acquisition choice with another.

SwetsWise's comprehensive eBook catalog enables you to select and order from over 1 million eBook titles and compare prices and purchase models from over 43 publishers and aggregators. It forms the industry’s largest one-stop shop of eBook publishers and aggregators in one location.
