Google Scholar, like Google Books, is one of the research tools that high school students often overlook. Searching on Google Scholar is not like searching on Google.com or searching in any other public search engine.

Libraries are continually changing to meet the needs of users; this includes implementing discovery tools, also referred to as web-scale discovery tools, to make searching library resources easier. Because these tools are so new, it is difficult to establish definitive best practices for teaching these tools; however, promising practices are emerging. A promising practice is “a program, activity, or strategy” that shows early promise for being effective in the long term and generalizable across institutions (Dare Mighty Things, n.d.).

This site is designed to provide information about the concept of metaliteracy. It also highlights work that is being done in connection with metaliteracy by a group of PIs working on a SUNY IIT (Innovative Information Technology) grant. The grant awarded in 2012 is Developing a SUNY-wide Transliteracy Learning Collaborative to Promote Information and Technology Collaboration.
The library profession is in the midst of a paradigm shift, thanks to technology and its impact on literacy and learning. With it have come new leadership roles for librarians, roles that require knowledge and skills not traditionally taught in library school programs. Blended librarianship is one way to embrace these new roles.
