Simon will consider how we can use a deeper understanding of value and impact to survive in an ever more competitive and confusing digital landscape. How do the
Darryl Barnaby's insight:

Simon advocates a model to assess the tangible benefits of digitisation it is not just sufficient to look at the number of times a resource is used rather we need a deeper understanding of its benefits. Looking at the social and economic impact on the community and the impact on our organisation. Value to the community is demonstrated by a change in the life or life opportunities of the community through social and economic impact. The  internal benefit to our own organisations comes from the innovation impact of making them more effective and efficient in delivering change and the strategic advantage that brings us.

Four aspects to the benefits of digitisation.

Laurinda Thomas - Presidential Address LIANZA '13

Darryl Barnaby's insight:

Presidential Adress LIANZA13 Insights from Laurinda Thomas.

1. Conversation - Change the conversation, change our language . No longer should we debate weather we are "relevant" or talk about the need to "reinvent" ourselves. We should not doubt our relevance and to talk of reinventing ourselves implies what we do in not sufficient. We need to talk about libraries as an "essential" service  we are critical to New Zealand's health wealth and wellbeing.

2. Elation - We choose to work in libraries because they fill us with "elation" we need to remember that. What we do makes a difference in people's lives.

3. Inspiration - Change is scary but motivating every achievement comes out of disatisfaction. When things change it is a way forward. Conference ideas open a window of inspiration. New Zealand is at the edge of the world we are setting the bar. Lets raise the bar. Build on the shulders of giants.

Rediscover the joy of your profession open the window to the future. Change how you talk about what you do and tell everyone.
