Young People identify the school library as an important, unique and valued area within the school. They ask that the BSF Programme look at what the library was for and how it was used. They want the role of the library to be extended and promoted as a place to relax as well as learn. School libraries are particularly valued as quiet, calm spaces, encouraging and supporting informal learning and learner-directed research.

“School libraries always have been interdisciplinary spaces deeply connected to the curriculum, instrumental in developing students' research and information literacy skills, and committed to creating an environment of free reading that supports lifelong learning and curiosity. These traditional roles and strengths are increasingly critical as society faces a deluge of digital information, and the lines between content user and content creator are blurred and even actively deconstructed.” Via Karen Bonanno

"nonlinear collection of Multi-Touch resource books are designed to support educators who are authoring content and/or guiding learners who are authoring content for publication. These Multi-Touch books will raise awareness about digital citizenship, copyright, and plagiarism. This foundation will help participants explore the expanding collection of open educational resources (OER), learn and apply various digital licenses, and apply appropriate citation practices. Finally, participants will learn ways to protect their own work and demonstrate ways to curate their own collection of OERs. This course is designed as a collection of resources to help the teacher/student navigate through open educational resources." Delete the scoop?

Why we need Digital Citizenship learning in our schools!
Hamish L's comment,
March 22, 12:22 AM
the term "digital citizenship" seems to have been hi jacked by internet safety. Isn't citizenship so much more than this, digital or otherwise?
melly's comment,
April 7, 8:45 PM
the focus should not only be on digital safety which of course is a large part of digital citizenship but includes so much more, like for example; digital communication, digital literacy and digital access. Digital citizenship as a subject at school was created as more than just finger wagging and more about education and infomation which in turn leads to good choices and the ability to be safe. Safety is a bonus which comes through following all aspects of digital citizenship. The school and library can be a safe place where digital information is accessed accurately and students have the ability to acquire new knowledge
