Digital Learning should be Personalized Learning

Digital Learning should be Personalized Learning | Libraries and education futures | Scoop.it

Technology is an enabler giving our newest generation of students a voice and the means to actively engage with teachers in the co-design and development of their own personalised learning experience. To enable students become capable learners and put them in charge of their personalised learning should be an very important step toward success.

#Connectivism in the context of acquisition of basic digital skills

Ana Cristina Pratas's curator insight, April 25, 2:42 PM

Learning basic digital skills through use of a network is somewhat of a contradiction.  Hence, I have commented on Siemens’s key principles in the context of this most fundamental learning in a networked world.  In the developing world, the most basic of digital skills (keyboard, mouse, logging on etc.) have to be learned before more valuable skills (searching, publishing) can be developed.

  • Learning and knowledge rests in diversity of opinions.

A non-networked person will have been exposed to only a narrow range of opinions. Hence the acquisition of digital skills is an essential precursor to accessing a diversity of opinions. It is no surprise that repressive regimes limit access to diversity of information.

  • Learning is a process of connecting specialised nodes or information sources.

However, a more fundamental learning is that of understanding that such sources exist and how to find them.

Jesse Soininen's comment, April 25, 4:32 PM
Sugata Mitra has shared wise words about our false beliefs on how learning should be built on steps from simple to complicated. See his TED video about this. We as humans are context capable beings even if live in the woods:)
Ivon Prefontaine's curator insight, April 25, 7:29 PM

When we decide that digital is the only way, we lack the foresight to know it is not for everyone immediately. We need to learn what is relevant and what is not.

The League of Extraordinary Librarians: media specialists are leading the way as tech superheroes

The League of Extraordinary Librarians: media specialists are leading the way as tech superheroes | Libraries and education futures | Scoop.it

Meet the latest tech superheroes: school librarians. According to School Library Journal’s 2012 School Technology Survey, media specialists are leading the charge to bring new media, mobile devices, social apps, and web-based technologies into our nation’s classrooms.

So far, the results have been pretty impressive: 87 percent of school librarians report that they’re in charge of their library’s technology, with 60 percent adding that they’ve also introduced it into the classroom. Furthermore, 44 percent now serve on their school’s tech team, and in these budget-troubled times, when many library positions are on the line, that role may mean increased job security. In fact, 55 percent of the elementary, middle, and high school librarians that responded to our survey say that their tech skills have increased their value in administrators’ eyes.

Future learning and school libraries

The Australia in the Asian century white paper clearly states the need to invest in s kills development to ensure all Australians can participate in and contribute to Au stralia’s productivity and future (Australian Government, 2012). It is imperative for the growth and well-being of Australia that educational policy and school leadership respond constructively to these trends.

Teacher librarians and school libraries have a pivo tal role to play in 21 st century education and this paper presents an overview of:

• International and national trends that impact on al l aspects of education

• The impact of digital technologies and the role of teacher librarians in the implementation of digital literacy

• The changing learning environment and how school li braries can support student learning

• The role teacher librarians can play within an educ ation that builds capacity for student and staff learning.

Using The Power Of The Pair To Enhance Active Learning - Edudemic

Using The Power Of The Pair To Enhance Active Learning - Edudemic | Libraries and education futures | Scoop.it

Colleen Lee:

I remember when I first figured out the “power of the pair”. I had walked onto our school library and the noise was way above what I would expect. I asked our librarian how it could be like that and she told me it wasn’t ‘noise’ – that if I listened closely it was ‘learning’. As I looked around the room it was evident. Students were working together to help each other in learn. For me the ‘pair’ is now one of my most powerful tools. I use it in all my foreign language classes and see it increasingly used in other disciplines. Here’s a few reasons why:

Puike analyse Steve Jobs-school #O4NT

Puike analyse Steve Jobs-school #O4NT | Libraries and education futures | Scoop.it
