Plus-Size Porn Is on the Rise — But Not for the Reason We Think

Plus-Size Porn Is on the Rise — But Not for the Reason We Think | Let's Get Sex Positive | Scoop.it
Body positivity has been having a moment as of late. Plus-size models are dominating runways and magazines. The tyranny of the "thigh gap" has been usurped by the somewhat more fat-friendly "thighbrow." In a duet with self-proclaimed "thick" chick Nicki Minaj, Drake has even declared, "I like my girls BBW," referring to "Big Beautiful Women," a niche genre of porn featuring women that are, well, big and beautiful.

However, even though we pay a lot of lip service to women like models Nadia Aboulhosn and Tess Holliday, is the body-positivity trend in the style sphere reflective of a larger phenomenon? Is our culture becoming more accepting of bigger women, both in the fashion world and in the privacy of our own bedrooms? In short: Are we increasingly masturbating to plus-size porn?

James Deen’s Alleged Assaults Were Ignored, Laughed Off by Casts and Crews #sexwork #porn #rape

James Deen’s Alleged Assaults Were Ignored, Laughed Off by Casts and Crews #sexwork #porn #rape | Let's Get Sex Positive | Scoop.it
Since Saturday, when porn actress and writer Stoya tweeted that she was raped by porn hero James Deen, four more adult film performers have come out agains
Gracie Passette's insight:

Cauterucci's article gives the most balanced view of the whole James Deen rape story ~ including the debacles facing women in porn and sex work. While the adult industry has a much faster (and positive) response to its stars who rape and abuse than Hollywood and mainstream media do, there are always the following issues of whether or not it is rape if a person is paid or likes rough sex.

Cauterucci:

"There is nothing wrong or rape-like about enjoying rough sex and being good at it. There is nothing wrong or suspicious about acting out a consensual rape fantasy. But, as in offscreen/noncommercial sex, the entire validity of porn as an industry hinges on consent. Perversely, that may be one reason why a porn actress might feel compelled to stay silent about these kinds of violations: Women who act in adult films are often portrayed as victims with little agency or know-how, who must resort to a demeaning and dangerous career because they have no other options. Stories like the ones Fires, Lux, Rayne, and Peters tell—important as they are—don’t exactly contradict that myth.

But neither porn nor rough sex subjected these women to sexual assault, and they didn’t turn James Deen into a rapist. The allegations against Deen are full of references to ways porn actresses control their own careers: through lists of acts they won’t perform, lists of people they won’t perform with, and contracts that specify exactly what will happen in a scene. Deviating from the agreed-upon variety, timing, and manner of sex is just as wrong as any other kind of assault. The women who’ve told their horrifying stories about Deen know that. Deen and the bystanders who looked on and laughed did, too."

TheBodyHouse.biz's curator insight, December 4, 2015 12:08 AM

For God's sake... It's never ok to punch a woman in the face and take her from behind... even if she's a paid porn star. Even if she literally... asks you for it.

It doesn't matter that this happened on the set of a porn flick. This incident springs from the generalized notion that it's excusable to treat a woman abusively because you are a more powerful and dominant male. Get over yourselves!

I see this attitude (and often experience it) everywhere. It's the attitude whereby men believe women have been put on this Earth to serve them.

Men feel entitled to us. This leads to a sense of ownership. I'm not sure where this comes from (The Bible maybe?) but it has got to END.

The Two Faces of Bisexual OKCupid

The Two Faces of Bisexual OKCupid | Let's Get Sex Positive | Scoop.it

There are no bisexual women on OKCupid. There are thousands of bisexual women on OKCupid. If you find that contradictory, well, welcome to the paradoxical world of bisexual OKCupid

... I rarely see the gender binary discussed by gay people on OKCupid, and certainly never by straight people—even though, of course, the concepts of homosexuality and heterosexuality imply a gender binary as well. Gay people and straight people simply don’t seem to worry that their sexual orientation is inherently offensive to the people they’d like to date.

Meet the Woman Who Makes Porn GIFs for a Living | Let's Get Sex Positive | Scoop.it
In 2013, for example, TechCrunch reported that over 11% of the GIF-centric blogging platform Tumblr's most popular accounts were porn-related.

Unlike some favorite cat GIFs floating around online, though, porn GIFs don't just appear out of nowhere. In fact, some are made by full-time professionals who know what, exactly, makes a good porn GIF. (Note: The following images are somewhat NSFW.)
Gracie Passette's insight:

"I hope I get some people to see there's more out there than just settling for tube sites," she said. "There are quality porn sites, and they're worth paying for."

Sex Toy Review: Fifi Battle!

Sex Toy Review: Fifi Battle! | Let's Get Sex Positive | Scoop.it
As a fan of both handicraft projects and orgasms, I felt the only option was to create my own. Now, there's a problem: the "fifi", as a homemade male masturbator, has more than one definition. The more traditional "fifi" is a glove wrapped in a towel or some clothing, so we've got to determine which is best.

First, there's the fifi from the video, which visually looks like more fun to fuck -- it looks sorta like ass cheeks and a pussy.

Sex As A Human Need, A Right

Sex As A Human Need, A Right | Let's Get Sex Positive | Scoop.it
Since I’ve already posted the whole long thread of reblogs with comments, I’m only going to address the recent comment by @thefairylolita, who said:

Sex is not a human need. You do not need sex to live. You do however need food, water, shelter, and clothing to keep warm.

According to Maslow’s hierarchy of needs sex is a need.

Sex is like many other needs, or, perhaps more correctly addressed as “rights” in societal terms, that we have. Individual humans may not seemingly directly, eventually, perish without having sex, but, like education, autonomy, etc. it must be recognized as a human need and protected as a right. As with all rights, one individual’s rights may not step on another’s. Examples are other inalienable rights, such as speech and religion. Additionally, I am no more obliged to provide sex to any individual than I am to give one my food or home.

But, as I stated before, I am all for governments, health insurance

Are Humans Meant to be Monogamous? | Let's Get Sex Positive | Scoop.it
When you ask psychologists, biologists, and sexuality experts whether humans are meant to be monogamous, the first thing they will come back with is, What do you mean by “meant to be”? Society, culture, and religion affect what we do as much as evolution and biology. So they were asked if monogamy is "natural" for humans. Author and educational consultant Dr. Elisabeth Sheff begins with the facts that most of the experts quoted agree upon.I'm not sure if there is any intention behind

A Review Of Jack’s Blowjob Lessons

A Review Of Jack’s Blowjob Lessons | Let's Get Sex Positive | Scoop.it

Jack’s Blowjob Lessons by Jack Hutson, with Tanya J, boasts of being “The Worlds #1 Blowjob Guide.” No one knows what that means, exactly; or if it’s even true. The truth is, what is most known about this book is its sexist nature.

...Smarmy as it is, Jack’s clearly aiming his book at insecure women, using threats to strike fear into their hearts. For Jack tells you, no matter how much you and your man may love one another, your relationship is at risk if you can’t give him good head. Your man will leave you. Or (presumably worse?) he may seek the services of a sex worker (in the book, he calls them “professionals”; on his website, he refers to them as “street hookers”). While I do wish women were more confident in themselves and their relationships than to fall for this sort of “man capturing” or “relationship saving” sort of thing ~ or just let the loser walk ~ there, sadly, is a hungry market for this. “Sex may sell” ~ but fear motivates actual purchases.

This is why I am trying to look past the sexism and other problems, and review the book’s contents to see if there’s anything worthy here… Just because Jack’s never had the pleasure of a feminist’s fantastic bj, it doesn’t mean you & your lover should miss such things...

It Gets Queerer: TV’s portrayal of LGBTIQ people is better than ever

It Gets Queerer: TV’s portrayal of LGBTIQ people is better than ever | Let's Get Sex Positive | Scoop.it

In terms of reach and scope, nothing brings queer stories and characters to audiences with the same effectiveness as television. Sure, films like The Imitation Game and Dallas Buyers Club get nominated for Oscars and attain a higher profile than most TV shows, but in terms of pushing the limits of what mainstream audiences encounter, it’s impossible to beat a medium which reaches a captive audience in living rooms across the world.

The problem with these films is the fact that they’re fundamentally heterocentric works. While they may have queer characters at their core, they’re not actually interested in those characters’ queerness in a way that understands the increasing significance of LGBTIQ representation. Television, on the other hand, has become adept at doing this, but it still has a ways to go.
