Wireframes have played an increasingly leading role in the modern Web development process. They provide a simple way of validating user interface and layout and are cheaper and faster to produce than a final visual comp. However, most of the methods and techniques used to create them are far from being efficient, contradicting the principles and values that made wireframing useful in first place.

Le Wireframing (ou maquette fil de fer) consiste à réaliser une maquette de la structure visuelle du projet. C'est une étape importante qui vous permettra de mieux communiquer avec les différents intervenants du projet. En tant que Freelance j'ai souvent été confronté à un problème très frustrant (pour moi, mais aussi pour le client), le manque de compréhension.

In 1998, I built my first website. I hadn’t gone to college yet, and my professional goals had little to do with pursuing web design and a lot to do with playing in a rock band. While my peers were mowing lawns, washing cars, and frying things, I was curiously learning about HTML and attempting to share my efforts with the world. As my skills got sharper, I quickly realized that there were businesses out there that would actually pay me to do this… and it certainly beat having to get an afterschool job.

Often times, businesses that want to create a website consider skipping the wireframing process. Usually, these businesses believe that because clients and customers won’t understand the purpose of a wireframe that they are not necessary. And as anybody acquainted with business knows, when something’s considered not necessary, it’s not done. Unfortunately for these websites that are developed by skipping the wire framing process, it’s actually a very bad idea.
