On the uncritical use of tecnology in teaching

Are teachers and trainers asking themselves often enough when they plan to use technology to do a specific learning activity whether it is for the right reasons, and whether the use of the functionality or tool in question is a sound, sensible or even desirable methodological choice, or whether, irrespective of the many reported benefits of getting learners to use technology in lessons, it is in fact the most efficient and effective use of the learners and the teacher's time (and money)?

My presentation at IATEFL 2012

More and more adults are finding that they need to learn
English, many of them learning a language for the first time. There is a view
that there are no ‘real’ beginners anymore and yet, language schools throughout
Europe, Asia, Africa and South America report they are continually faced with
the challenges that these learners bring.

Age, attitude, lack of time, previous learning experiences all have an effect on our ability to learn. For those with no previous language learning experience, the lack of understanding of how to process, retain and produce what is being presented to them often makes for slow progress or even failure. The challenge is to tackle all of these and develop a positive mind set so that learning can take place.
