Does Not Compute

Does Not Compute | Learning with Tablets | Scoop.it
The High Cost of Low Technology Skills in the U.S.--and What We Can Do About ItAlthough American millennials are the first generation of "digital natives"--that is, people who grew up with computers and the internet--they are not very tech savvy. That fact would probably come as a shock to most Americans--especially to millennials themselves. After all, millennials are glued to their phones, tablets, and other devices. Many assume that using technology often means using it well.

Erin Ryan's curator insight, October 22, 2015 8:29 PM

83% of millennials sleep with their phones but cannot solve simple tech problems. Time on tech does not necessarily equal a proficient user. And many do not recognize the barrier it causes in their overall work performance. I am not particularly tech savvy (despite my nice $20K master's degree in educational technology) but I am relentless in problem solving and if something is broke, I will seek out support to find the answers. I will fix it (with support) so that I can produce results. Incorporating technology into everyday learning can help students tackle problems and aid them in being productive in their work and life.

"It's the purpose and function of the tech in the broader sequence of learning that validates or discredits..." a 21century classroom. "Using these tools isn't "good" or "bad"--and that's kind of the point."
