...the rhizome pertains to a map that must be produced, constructed, a map that is always detachable, connectible, reversible, modifiable, and has multiple entryways and exits and its own lines of flight. (Deleuze and Guattari 1987, 21)

Leveraging the ‘Instrumented’ Pocket & Backpack

Leveraging the ‘Instrumented’ Pocket & Backpack | Learning with PLE | Scoop.it

"Many students put in their backpacks and their pockets things that matter to them for their day to day living. This often includes an electronic device. Why?  It’s because these devices are part of the tools they use in their everyday life. The devices they bring are part of who they are as people. It’s how they connect and become communicators, collaborators, problem-solvers and critical thinkers. So I say, let’s work together and allow them to leverage BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) during the school day and coach them to understand appropriate use in our business of learning together." - blogpost by Lisa Neale

"In other words, and summing up, I believe that it is likely that we see a decreasing need of instructors as more knowledgeable others in order to learn something, but an increasing need of instructors as more knowledgeable others in order to learn how to learn something. With Personal Learning Environments to cover the ground of one’s Zone of Personal Development, learning how to learn, how to design one’s own learning process may be more relevant than ever and require more help from third parties. This is, I think, the most promising future of teaching today."

10 Key Reasons That Make Content Curation Important for Education And Learning

10 Key Reasons That Make Content Curation Important for Education And Learning | Learning with PLE | Scoop.it

"Content curation will play a major role both in the way we teach and in the way we educate ourselves on any topic.

This article, builds up over my recent presentation on Content Curation for Education that I delivered at Emerge2012 virtual conference.

In that presentation I claimed that the adoption of "curation approaches" will directly affect the way competences are taught and the value that can be generated for "others" through a personal learning path.

In this article I outline ten key factors, already at work, which, among others, will very likely pave the way for a much greater and rapid adoption of curation practices in the educational / academic world.

Personalize Learning: OMG! Teacher Roles are Changing

Personalize Learning: OMG! Teacher Roles are Changing | Learning with PLE | Scoop.it
Teacher roles change when learning is personalized for and by the learners. Learning starts with the learners.

Via Kathleen McClaskey
memma's insight:

When you create an environment where learning is personal for each learner, your role as a teacher changes.

So what does personalized learning really mean?

Personalized learning means it starts with learners having a voice and choice in how they learn. They create their Personal Learner Profile using the Universal Design for Learning (UDL) lens determining how they learn best indicating their strengths, challenges, aspirations, interests, and talents.

It is not about teaching subjects, curriculum, or standards. It is about learners learning how to learn -- how to think for themselves -- to problem solve. The teachers we talk to who are letting go and encouraging learner voice and choice have changed their learning environment and role as teacher. They see and share how learners are taking responsibilities and ownership for their learning. These teachers are finding that they will never go back to traditional teaching methods.

Let Them Own the Learning!

Let Them Own the Learning! | Learning with PLE | Scoop.it

Josh Griffith, the principal of Collins-Maxwell MS/HS in Iowa, is passionate about personalized learning and creating a system that will support the needs of ever learner. Here is his blog post "Let Them Own the Learning".

"How do you learn best? What are your interests? What are your strengths and weaknesses? What motivates you? How fast of a learner are you?

Are your answers to these questions the same as everyone else you know? My point is, we are all very different. So, if we are all this different, why are we forcing students to learn the same way and at the same pace? I know that I learn best when I take ownership in my learning, by having choice in what, how, when, and how long it takes me to learn. Do you?..."

Constructing Personal Learning Environments open online course: Level of Use Study | csessums.com | Learning with PLE | Scoop.it

This is Christopher D. Sessums & Wendy Drexler proposal for the American Educational Research Association (AERA) conference (New Orleans, Louisiana, April 2011). It was accepted with additional final results.

The purpose of this study was to provide an open forum through which learners could construct personal learning environments on a self-selected topic of study. The designers sought to determine:

* In what ways is a personal learning environment being used by participants?

* How effectively is it being used relative to the foundational processes necessary for constructing PLEs?

* What factors are affecting its use/nonuse?

* What outcomes are experienced by use/nonuse of personal learning environments?
