How to Beat Online Procrastination: Make It As Unenjoyable As Possible | Learning with MOOCs | Scoop.it
This post originally appeared on Inside Higher Ed. The key to making online students focus on their coursework may be making procrastination as unenjoyable as possible, according to a study out of Cornell University. This is a really good review of the article and demonstrates that limiting our social media and other distractions helps us reduce our procrastination. Making it annoying to get to social media makes us more likely to avoid it whilst studying. I just wish the article told me what the software is, so that I can buy it.

Arizona State University to offer freshman year online, for credit | Learning with MOOCs | Scoop.it

To start college, the typical student must meet admission requirements (if any), enroll and pay tuition. But what if anyone anywhere could try out a prominent university’s classes for a small fee and wait until the end to decide whether to pay tuition for credit toward a diploma?

That is one of the groundbreaking ideas behind an Arizona State University plan, announced Wednesday, to offer a freshman curriculum online through the nonprofit Web site called edX.

Surprising Collaborations: Charting New Paths for IT Professionals (EDUCAUSE Review) | EDUCAUSE.edu | Learning with MOOCs | Scoop.it

When edX launched in 2012, some hailed MOOCs as the great disrupter of education and asked if many colleges and universities would close their doors. Instead, we've worked hand-in-hand with our institutional partners to increase access to education for everyone and to reimagine what education can look like. We've charted new pathways instead of destroying old ones. So, after the failure of our first attempt to connect students with jobs, we began a collaboration with an energetic start-up that could help us rethink job placement.
