Harness their own curiosity by asking them, with careful question framing, to come up with their own explanations.

 

Simple, but powerful.

 

Also, check out one of the cited source, "Analogy in Learning and Reasoning" to learn more about the mechanics of learning through analogy (and some of the problems).

 

All great stuff for helping learners become more autonomous.

Sometimes, when I get up in front of fellow educators and academics and say I study scholarship and…Twitter, I end up feeling like I’m doing stand-up comedy. Really? Twitter? say people’s eyebrows. I am becoming a great student of arched eyebrows.
