With Tech Tools, How Should Teachers Tackle Multitasking In Class?

With Tech Tools, How Should Teachers Tackle Multitasking In Class? | Learning theories & Educational Resources תיאוריות למידה וחומרי הוראה | Scoop.it

While some teachers want to remove all digital distractions from the classroom, others say Generation M’s biggest challenges — like giving schoolwork undivided attention — require learninga new set of behaviors that need to be taught and modeled. Besides, tasks like online research, communicating with teachers and other students, and sharing ideas and divvying up work online are mandatory parts of doing school work. So the question for educators is: what to do about it?

One of the biggest criticisms of millenials is that they are easily distracted and commonly multitasking - how do you make sure that new technology in lessons don't also become a multitasking distraction?

Students and teachers in Europe are keen to "go digital", computer numbers have doubled since 2006 and most schools are now "connected", but use of ICTs (Information and Communication Technologies) and digital skill levels are very uneven. These skills and support for teachers to deliver them need a strong boost, according to a survey on the use of digital technologies in schools in Europe published by the Commission.

Bloom's Digital Taxonomy Explained

This is my presentation for MoRCE-NET conference. In this presentation I talked about the original Bloom's Taxonomy that was first published in 1956 by Benjamin Blooms and then I talked about the Revised Taxonomy introduced in 2000 by Andrew and Krathwohl . I also touched on the digital taxonomy and provided a practical example of how students can use it in conducting Google searches.

Med Kharbach (@medkh9) offers a useful screencast to explain the revision of Bloom's Taxonomy for the digital age.  He talks to the action and verbs associated with the classification of thinking skills in the revised taxonomy within the context of the digital age as suggested by Andrew Churches. Creativity positioned as higher order thinking skill (HOTS). How are you enabling your students to demonstrate their learning in creative ways using digital media?

Educational Technology and Mobile Learning: Awesome Poster on Bloom's Revised Taxonomy

Educational Technology and Mobile Learning: Awesome Poster on Bloom's Revised Taxonomy | Learning theories & Educational Resources תיאוריות למידה וחומרי הוראה | Scoop.it

Med Kharback:

I just got this poster from a fellow teacher featuring the 6 thinking skills as outlined in the revised taxonomy. As you probably know, Blooms taxonomy that was first created in the 1950s has been revised by Krathwohl and there are two  main changes that appeared in this revised taxonomy: the first one is semantic in that nouns are now being replaced with verbs; and the second change relates to the order of these thinking skills. In the old taxonomy, Bloom highlighted the importance of evaluating and therefore placed it at the top of the  thinking continuum, but for Krathwohl Creating is the highest order thinking skill.

How To Properly Integrate Education Technology

How To Properly Integrate Education Technology | Learning theories & Educational Resources תיאוריות למידה וחומרי הוראה | Scoop.it

Rogers’ Diffusion of Innovation theory is the basis for several different models of organizational change, and it is the theory that is taught in most instructional technology programs at the Masters or Doctorate level. Organizations will not change until the people within them are ready to change, and those people have differing attitudes towards change. In a one-to-one program, often the resistance isn’t towards using technology but instead it’s resistance towards change itself.

iPads in the classroom – A development of a taxonomy for the use of iPads in schools

Nevertheless, a lot ofprerequisites in terms of hardware and software are required for a successful integration of tablets. In addition, there are some drawbacks, such as the lack of teacher training and slower text production.

The Padagogy Wheel ... it's a Bloomin' Better Way to Teach

The Padagogy Wheel ... it's a Bloomin' Better Way to Teach | Learning theories & Educational Resources תיאוריות למידה וחומרי הוראה | Scoop.it

" Dr Ian Green from the School of Education here at Adelaide and I [Allan Carrington] have used Padagogy 101 (introduction to iPad in HE) and Padagogy 201 (more advanced use for L&T) to train over 600 faculty from universities in Australia. During my research I saw lots of great work done by others using Bloom’s Taxonomy including the Revised Taxonomy which has now become the Bloom’s Digital Taxonomy. However when I discovered the excellent pioneer work done by Kathy Schrock with “Bloomin’ Apps” I got the idea for the Padagogy Wheel. Dare I say it but it is the next version for mobile learning of the ongoing importance of Bloom’s Taxonomy. Bloom’s is still fundamental to good teaching and learning."

A good starting point for I-pad apps and usage for educational purposes. Great to have the links. As always the first step in a journey that has many twists and turns. It takes you where you want to go but there are many pathways you can take and who knows where they will lead you!Sometimes it's the journey that is important not just the destination.
