Beth Dichter's insight:

This video not only provides an explantion of flipping and how to begin this process it also provides great resources (if you click on the Show More button under the description). There you will find links to four "great content curators" (these sites have content across many subject areas) as well as links to educational content creators (more focused on a specific area)  and a variety of websites that tend to post daily and you may want to subscribe to. The video also provides you with a "tutorial" of how to create a video if you want to flip your class. Thanks to Keith Hughes and HipHughesHistory to providing this wonderful resource!

Mike Dilger's curator insight, October 14, 2013 5:18 AM

Some ideas about flipping. There are various degrees of flipping and you can start small and flip quite successfully, with good results.

7 Things Teachers Need to Know about The Relation between The Brain and Learning ~ Educational Technology and Mobile Learning

7 Things Teachers Need to Know about The Relation between The Brain and Learning ~ Educational Technology and Mobile Learning | Learning theories & Educational Resources תיאוריות למידה וחומרי הוראה | Scoop.it

The core concept behind effective instruction is differentiation and adaptation particularly now that technology and digital media is taking over every facet of our life. Being able and ready to adapt your teaching methods to your students emerging learning needs is the key to a successful teaching career. Adaptation requires  thinking analytically about what goes on when students are engaged in learning. Some get the point so rapidly without the need for exhaustive explanations but others are slow learners and call for longer time.

Barriers to Creativity in Education

Via Mary Perfitt-Nelson

Allan Shaw's curator insight, August 7, 2013 9:44 PM

Schooling itself is a systems technology where resources (people, time, places, curriculum, assessment etc) are geared to attain goals some of which are explicit and some implicit. Creativity has never been an explicit goal, perhaps quite the oppositie (confromity and standardisation) has been the case. Creativity needs a culture and systems that are sensitive to and allow for some ambiguity, error, iterations on the same theme and patience. I'm not sure the current systems can manage that even with the adjustments suggested in this graphic.

Using Bloom's Taxonomy In The 21st Century: 4 Strategies For Teaching

Using Bloom's Taxonomy In The 21st Century: 4 Strategies For Teaching | Learning theories & Educational Resources תיאוריות למידה וחומרי הוראה | Scoop.it

For decades, education reform has been focused on curriculum, assessment, instruction, and more recently standards, and data, with these efforts only bleeding over into how students think briefly, and by chance. This means that the focus of finite teacher and school resources are not on promoting thinking and understanding, but rather what kinds of things students are going to be thinking about and how they’ll prove they understand them.

Connectivism as a Digital Age Learning Theory

George Siemens and Stephen Downes developed a theory for the digital age, called connectivism, denouncing boundaries of behaviorism, cognitivism, and constructivism. Their proposed learning theory has issued a debate over whether it is a learning theory or instructional theory or merely a pedagogical view.

Paige Paul's curator insight, September 15, 2015 7:52 PM

Topic 2- This is an interesting piece that explores how connectivism should be categorized.  Sometimes I think people in the education world can get too caught up in labels and buzzwords, and forget that ultimately what you call it doesn't matter as much as whether or not it promotes student learning.

We continue to use technology to reinforce 19th century teaching practice' | Learning theories & Educational Resources תיאוריות למידה וחומרי הוראה | Scoop.it

why [has] technology, to date, had very little impact on improved learning outcomes? This could be because we continue to use technology to reinforce 19th century teaching practice to meet out-dated assessment models. Most of the world’s curriculum and assessment systems are based around fact recall rather than actually demonstrating that you have learned something and can deploy it within a problem-solving situation.

"Another Brick In The Wall" - Pink Flloyd

The Planetary Archives / San Francisco, California's curator insight, November 17, 2013 3:12 PM

Our  education system is nothing more than child-care with some

indoctrination thown in.

See/hear "The Wall" by Pink Floyd  (40+ years ago.)

Let the children play until they are old enough to decide what they are interested in learning. That's completely different than training them from Day 1 to "sit still, be quiet, and obey authority." Training a 5-year old to become a "worker" or 'Businessman"  is not education, but it may be child abuse.

This is a great infographic for showing the thought process of finding information.

Terry Yelmene's curator insight, August 16, 2015 11:50 AM

A pretty well-reasoned, fundamental thought process for most knowledge work research.  This serves as an even better backward (there-to-here) model to guide the core research workflow process automation  a knowledge worker may want to devise, install.  Think work product-informed -> DevonThink structures -> DevonAgent w/'Active Filtered' automated searches.  The most important drivers here are - 'ethical' - (more than just multiple sources, a stage needs to be added at the work product stage to provide authenticity) and - 'bias' -  (a post automated search,  subsequent manual search for corroborating items selection to provide authority).
