Para que no sea un desperdicio de tiempo,oportunidades el nuevo paradigma educacional no solo enfatiza la necesidad de aprender,sino del como. El currículo basado en competencias pretende la puesta en acción de lo aprendido, dar cuenta de los saberes. No podemos ignorar los cambios que la revolución digital ha traído,pretendiendo que los niños aprenden como décadas atrás, debemos sumarnos al progreso digital.Emplear las nuevas herramientas.

I chose this article because I have a grave concern for the viability for public education and am always interested in hearing insights about what must be "fixed". Wasting gifts, talents and abilities - Yes, the educational system does not seem to value many unique and specific talents. Instead, test achievement is valued! The author says that "The other issue is that there are not many jobs in the world that pay people to be good test takers". I wholeheartedly agree! a pencil paper task does not necessarily suggest one's capability of learning and accomplishing specific tasks associated with an occupation or profession. Another thing that I'm contemplating from this article that is a very complex issue: "...there is a danger of educational technology shaping us more than us shaping the technology". I believe that this threshold is sometimes exceeded. Electronic resources are meant to compliment and augment teaching.

Technology is way too often given a bad rap by administrators and educators as a distraction or a hazard for students.  When technology is integrated intentionally with foresight and with intention of addressing specific growth-oriented goals, it increases the potential to help students learn, develop, and grow in unique ways.  It can be used to help address the needs as described by Maslow.

In this age of abundance of information, shifting classroom pedagogy isn't nearly enough to make learning in school more relevant and authentic for the learner. Self-directed learning (andragogy), and self-determined learning (heutagogy) are the ideals necessary in making students "future ready" to live and learn in a web connected world.


While original research applied these concepts to mature learners, it has become apparent that even young children have an abundant capacity for recognizing and directing their own learning. Anyone who has observed toddlers learning how to walk and talk understand the motivation and skill development that quickly develops during these processes.


Considered by some to be on a learning continuum, self-directed learning and self-determined learning have at least one distinct difference. Since "upwards of ninety percent of our learning will occur outside formal educational settings" (Jennings, 2010), in the age of abundance of information, students should be motivated to reflect on how they are learning. That is what is self-directed learning

Caveats: Students need to NOT be pressured into an economic mold—it destroys motivation , curiosity and love of learning (science shows that these are the basis for life-long mental resilience). People learn at their own pace and have individual processing modes. It is vital for our future to nurture instrinsic motivation in the next generation.

So just how do you learn to get into the flow in your classroom? The ever-lovely Mia MacMeekin made this handy graphic after watching a TED talk by Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi and reading his book. I haven’t read the book, but the TED talk is really inspiring. It is not specifically geared towards teaching or education, but talks about how to find fulfillment and happiness through immersion in activities – which he calls ‘flow’. If you’re interested in a bit of his backstory, you can read a bit about him here. Mia has extrapolated the ideas of his TED talk and applied them to the classroom.
