A Complete EFL Teacher Training Course Online

A Complete EFL Teacher Training Course Online | Learning Technology News | Scoop.it

Shaping the Way We Teach English is a fantastic resource that I came across recently. The resource is similar to other online courses from colleges and universities. It's free and accessible through The Online Language Center of the University of Oregon and it is a pretty complete teacher training course that has videos , viewing tasks, transcripts, observation checklists and even recommended supplementary web based reading.

Nik Peachey's insight:

An old blog post about what is still a very useful resource.

Visible Thinking involves several practices and resources. Teachers are invited to use with their students a number of "thinking routines" -- simple protocols for exploring ideas -- around whatever topics are important, say fractions arithmetic, the Industrial Revolution, World War II, the meaning of a poem, the nature of democracy. Visible Thinking includes attention to four "thinking ideals" -- understanding, truth, fairness, and creativity.

Playing Is More Than Fun—It's Smart

Playing Is More Than Fun—It's Smart | Learning Technology News | Scoop.it
Children who pretend, and grown-ups who immerse themselves in the imaginary realms of fiction and drama, are considering what would happen if the world were different, and working out the consequences. My former student Daphna Buchsbaum, now at the University of Toronto, and I, along with several colleagues, found that preschoolers who pretended more were better at “counterfactual” reasoning–figuring out what could have happened, but didn’t.

Personally I think is important today that teachers have knowledge in the different kinds of technology to teach, we are in an era, where the majority resources around us are technological. "As educators, figuring out the purpose behind using data and educational technology can help propel the initiative forward." It is important because as future teacher I need to know about the differents resources that technology offers me, resources that I will use with my future students to help them to learn more about the language.

Unlocking the Potential of Technology

Unlocking the Potential of Technology | Learning Technology News | Scoop.it

To thrive in a rapidly evolving, technology-mediated world, students must not only possess strong skills in areas such as language arts, mathematics and science, but they must also be adept at skills such as critical thinking, problem-solving, persistence, collaboration and curiosity. All too often, however,
students in many countries are not attaining these skills. In this context, the World Economic Forum has taken on a multi-year initiative, New Vision for Education, to examine the pressing issue of skills gaps and explore ways to address these gaps
through technology.
