Project-Based Learning Research Review

Project-Based Learning Research Review | Learning Technology News | Scoop.it

Teachers can create real-world problem-solving situations by designing questions and tasks that correspond to two different frameworks of inquiry-based teaching: Problem-based learning, which tackles a problem but doesn't necessarily include a student project, and project-based learning, which involves a complex task and some form of student presentation, and/or creating an actual product or artifact.

Learner-Centred Education and Communicative Language Teaching – is it appropriate for all contexts? | ELT Consultants | Learning Technology News | Scoop.it
What is very concerning is seeing these ‘aspirational’ curriculums being produced by developing countries as if that’s all that’s needed! The level of planning for successful implementation seems to get forgotten. The people who will deliver these educational reforms also get forgotten! Another very expensive way to push forward Education Reforms is developing materials, as if the materials on their own will do the job of educating the children.

Don’t Ignore Teachers in Evaluation Studies of Education Technology (EdSurge News) | Learning Technology News | Scoop.it
As we explore how to best apply useful technologies in a variety of learning environments, it will be important to pay careful attention to teacher mindsets, experience and instructional planning. That is, school leaders would be wise to consider factors such as teachers’ experience with technology, their buy-in to the new tools, instructional use cases that surround the product’s use, and whether other products are also being used at the same time.

You would think it's a 'no-brainer' but you might be surprised.

Transcend the Classroom with Virtual Place-Based Learning

Transcend the Classroom with Virtual Place-Based Learning | Learning Technology News | Scoop.it
Simulation-based learning allows us to play in a highly immersive environment that reflects aspects of the real world. In virtual simulations, we can explore and create with much lower stakes than we would encounter in the real world. Questions of “What if?” flourish in a virtual simulation as we create and experience new possibilities with increasing realism. With smartphones making access to virtual reality easier and easier, virtual simulations can now become part of place-based learning in the classroom.

Digital distraction is a term only those living in our Information Age might know. Being distracted by technology isn’t a new thing, but today’s tech is different. The death of universities

The death of universities | Learning Technology News | Scoop.it
Since Margaret Thatcher, the role of academia has been to service the status quo, not challenge it in the name of justice, tradition, imagination, human welfare, the free play of the mind or alternative visions of the future. We will not change this simply by increasing state funding of the humanities as opposed to slashing it to nothing. We will change it by insisting that a critical reflection on human values and principles should be central to everything that goes on in universities, not just to the study of Rembrandt or Rimbaud.

When we look at what research says about becoming better at something, two pieces of evidence stand out.

First, we must have clarity on what our goals are, and where we want to go or what we want to become.

Second, it is deliberate practice (combined with feedback loops) that increase the myelin in our brain and in turn help improve performance and growth.
