How Texting Is Changing Your Grammar

How Texting Is Changing Your Grammar | Learning Technology News | Scoop.it

Now that text talk is widely accepted as a legitimate form of communication, we are left wondering: Will text talk become our main form of communication in the future? Will the widespread use of text talk negatively impact the way we communicate? Or are we engaged in the creation of a colorful new language every time we text?

My thoughts:

This article talks about how texting and the new media age may not be as bad of a thing as it is hyped up to be. They have done studies that show the pros and cons. This article shows how although we are using shortcuts to write it is just a way of us adapting; yet people still continue to use proper grammar more often than not.

'Skype has become a well known technology for English learning.
Many students now use Skype to practice their English as an alternative to face to face lessons and classroom lessons. Some of the advantages of learning a language with Skype is that it is possible to have more flexible hours, booking a variety of times and choosing your location.'

Why I Teach Online

Why I Teach Online | Learning Technology News | Scoop.it
Faculty objections to online teaching remain widespread in the academic circles in which I travel. At each of the universities where I’ve taught, I’ve encountered colleagues who feared or despised it, most of the time without ever actually having taught online themselves. One department I was part of even passed a resolution against online teaching.

But the reality is that technological innovation today is opening the door to entirely new methods of teaching that have never before been feasible. New tools have changed how teachers interact with their students

It's Not About the Device, It's About What You Do With It | Learning Technology News | Scoop.it
Placing devices within the context of learning theory can help schools and districts prioritize around education technology. One of the most common questions asked when a discussion turns to education technology is “What device should I buy?” For all of the reasons aforementioned, the answer is always “the one that does what you need it to do.”

How teachers and stduents use digital tools includes tact and thoughtfulness. The word technology is about a thoughtful conversation and wisdom, not about the tools themselves. If, as Maslow suggested, we only use a hammer, everything begins to look like a nail. We have the wrong tool for the situation.

One of the most common failings of education technology implementations and integrations are the result of insufficient of or poorly designed professional development for the faculty who are expected to change their practices and embrace new solutions. How Important is use of Technology in Education

How Important is use of Technology in Education | Learning Technology News | Scoop.it
There were a huge number of positives and negatives to education technology. But, gradually as technology was embraced by the educational institutes, they realized the importance of technology in education. Its positives outnumbered the negatives and now, with technology, education has taken a whole new meaning that it leaves us with no doubt that our educational system has been transformed owing to the ever-advancing technology. Technology and education are a great combination if used together with a right reason and vision.

After assessing feedback from both users and publishers, we’re making the Fact Check label in Google News available everywhere, and expanding it into Search globally in all languages. For the first time, when you conduct a search on Google that returns an authoritative result containing fact checks for one or more public claims, you will see that information clearly on the search results page. The snippet will display information on the claim, who made the claim, and the fact check of that particular claim.

Personalizing Professional Development

Personalizing Professional Development | Learning Technology News | Scoop.it
The key to all of these ideas is that the teacher, not the district or the administrators, determined how the teacher reaches the goals. That is not to say that teachers should not consult with administrators during this process, only that the teacher should drive the path that the learning follows. Additionally, teachers need to realize that there is a justifiable need for accountability. We already know that “sit and get” PD is not effective because it is often done in isolation with no follow up. Effective PD includes both practice and reflection. These must be included even when teachers design their own learning.

Why edtech needs to be part of our CPD

Why edtech needs to be part of our CPD | Learning Technology News | Scoop.it
Most teachers therefore want two things from educational technology. Firstly they want it to at least fit in with the pedagogical approaches that they have developed and, hopefully, solve pedagogical problems that already exist. If the introduction of technology fits in with existing practice it is more likely to be embraced whereas if it is at odds with the pedagogical position of the teacher then they are likely to resist it, even if there is potential in the long run for a new pedagogy to emerge.
