If you are looking for a bird's eye view on what alternative collaboration tools are now available for different kind of projects and purposes, I do have what you are looking for.

The new Best Online Collaboration Tools 2014 directory is now public. It contains over 370 collaboration tools organized in over 25 different categories ranging from video-conferencing to screen-sharing, collaborative reviewing and many more.

The tools listed have all been checked and verified and represent my own personal census on what is available today for each one of the categories listed. There is no attempt (yet) to provide individual evaluations or recommendations, though I have tried to subjectively rank tools in each category according to their value and importance.

The directory is updated weekly.

New suggestions, comments and request for revisions and changes are highly welcome.

Free to use.

9 eCommerce design trends to embrace in 2016

9 eCommerce design trends to embrace in 2016 | Learning Technology | Scoop.it
In today's fast-changing eCommerce world, it’s challenging for any web designer to predict the future. What’s new today may be outdated tomorrow! To deliver
Learning Technologist's insight:

Gain an insight into key web design trends for the year ahead, this article features some truly beautiful web sites - and I nearly spontaneously bought a Nixon watch! Haha - it seems like I am convinced with these approaches - especially nixons!

I wanted to share this article as ecommerce sites typically generate trends in other design areas - everything is done to create revenue in these sites, this means that a lot of ecommerce sites are based on proven methods and have the money to do it well (I think this plays a part in why these sites work).

Personally I love the use large, crystal clear and tack sharp photography that we are seeing across the web these days. Giving the users a media rich and engaging experience is a high focus on a number of these sites.

An interesting stat about large devices - I'd like to know the demographics of these visitors? Surely this isn't all internet users? or is it?

Cheap Virtual Reality: Google Cardboard, Nikon KeyMission & Immersive views

"Experience virtual reality in a simple, fun, and affordable way. Immersive experience for everyone."

Learning Technologist's insight:

I love the concept of this!

With sites like Flickr & YouTube allowing 360 degree images/videos to be viewed in what's known as an immersive view (see Rick (瑞克) Horseshoe Bend on Flickr as an example), big social sharing networks names are pushing the virtual experience to new levels.

This combined with very affordable, 4K consumer versions of 360 degree camera's becoming cheaper and better (see Nikon's KeyMission release) means that we will be seeing a lot more of this soon. And that leaves us with the question; how can you make the most use of it in your next project?

Three Effective Techniques for Brainstorming Ideas | Edudemic

Three Effective Techniques for Brainstorming Ideas | Edudemic | Learning Technology | Scoop.it
One important skill for succeeding in school is coming up with new and creative ideas. The best ideas are ones that solve problems or make our lives easier.
Learning Technologist's insight:

A simple but effective list of easy to implement, group-based activities that you can use to generate ideas within your unit/course.

You can definitely use these techniques for yourself to get that extra boost of creativity at this time of the year!

Now given that this is my first article shared and it is not about technology at all(!?) well, watch this space for insight into some technologies that can help with these processes at a later date.

With that in mind, here are some handy tools for creating these activities online:
1. Post-It Throwdown

Padlet - fantastic web app for creating notes on a "wall". One of the things I love about Padlet is the well designed interface. Another great feature is the amount that you can do without needing an account. Once you have your notes/docs etc published on your "wall", you have a huge amount of opportunity to publish this to various formats (PDFs/Excel are the best) along with sharing to your normal array of Social Media services. In addition, you easily grab the embed code to paste it into the LMS (for example).  https://padlet.com/

2. Do the Opposite:
Any technology that allows for comments, the LMS would be well suited in most cases.

3. Mind mapping

Mind Meister - an easy to use and free tool for creating web based mind maps (an account is required to save)

BLOOM - an interactive presentation example of SWAY

BLOOM - an interactive presentation example of SWAY | Learning Technology | Scoop.it
Every song starts with a seed. An unexpected moment of clarity and creation. The whisper of a stranger's conversation or the beat of the blood in your veins. It never arrives the same way twice, so songwriters live our lives with pens tucked in our purses, Moleskins in our back pockets, lips pressed to the mini-mics in our phones and keep our digital butterfly-nets always open. I do my best to catch each inspiration. Melodies and pictures and feelings all melt into music. So here's a new way to capture the magical moments together, to speed up the process, hack the collaboration and get to the making...
Learning Technologist's insight:

SWAY (http://www.sway.com) is a tool for building interactive presentations, this is a beautiful example. I must admit I was playing around with horizontal scrolling in 2004 and I'm still not sure if it is highly usable, despite that, I like it!

Complete evaluation of the DJI Phantom 3

Complete evaluation of the DJI Phantom 3 | Learning Technology | Scoop.it
Since I started traveling full-time as a photographer in 2009, I’ve consistently gone out of my way to find the most awesome vantage points possible for my photography. I’ve literally climbed mountains, paddled kayaks, ridden pack mules, contracted helicopters, you name it and I’ve done it. Now, a fair bit of that work can be solved with a small, affordable DJI Quadcopter that fits comfortably into my backpack. Here’s an in-depth review of the new DJI Phantom 3 Professional based on my experience flying and shooting in Italy through Rome, Florence, Tuscany, and Cinque Terre.
Learning Technologist's insight:

A thorough and relevant real world review of popular/affordable Drone technology, features a great comparison of the Phantom 2 and DJI Phantom 3 and best of all has some nice examples of the post-production that can be achieved with the video and still photos.
