An Introduction to Phonetics and Phonology

An Introduction to Phonetics and Phonology | Learning technologies for EFL | Scoop.it

Robert Mannell, Felicity Cox, Jonathon Harrington and Michael Carey in the Department of Linguistics at Macquarie University created this online resource to support topics in phonetics and phonology in 2009.

There are concise presentations on

- phonetics (speech production, vowels systems)

- transcription (IPA, transcription of Australian English)

- phonology (phonemes, feet, distinctive features).

Much will be too technical for the average language learner, but may be suitable in support of phonetics/phonology courses and for pre-service teachers.

Pronunciation animations - Cambridge University Press English Language Teaching

Pronunciation animations - Cambridge University Press English Language Teaching | Learning technologies for EFL | Scoop.it

Shona Whyte:

This site has animations with sound to help learners with sounds (diphthongs), stress (word and sentence stress), and intonation (rising and falling intonation).  It also has phonemic charts for English vowels and consonants - click on the symbol to hear the sound.

Useful for even beginning learners, and a good resource for checking general rules (e.g., word stress) and the phonemic inventory of English.
