10 Good Ways to Boost Kids Learning Using Mobile Technology | learning technologies | Scoop.it
Technology has radically transformed and revolutionized education. From education 1.0 where technology was hardly used to education 3.0 where digitally reigns, learners are becoming more dependent on web technologies to help them with their learning. Of course there are always side effects to any new innovation but when it comes to education the advantages of embracing technology way outnumber its inconveniences. The infographic below from the folks in Pumpic provides some key insights regarding the use of technology especially the mobile one in kids learning. It also suggests some interesting ways to use smartphones and tablets to boost kids’ education and features a number of apps to use in this regard.

Easy tool for recording audio with slides. I don't like that you can flip ahead thus getting the audio off sync with the slides, but it looks like you can control that.

SAMR Model - Breaking New Ground - @KStrachan_BNG

I have been pulling together some SAMR model material for an inservice and so am posting it for convenience sake. Use it as you may.

Note that I see the model as more of a continuum: sometimes it is appropriate to be a t the lower end of the continuum, often it is better to strive for the transformative levels.

6 Great Websites for Educators Using iPads in the Classroom - GAGGLE.NET

6 Great Websites for Educators Using iPads in the Classroom - GAGGLE.NET | learning technologies | Scoop.it
Despite news of Chromebooks surpassing iPads as the most popular devices sold to U.S. schools, iPads continue to play a very important role in K-12 education. It’s increasingly become more common for students to come to school with their own iPads, while other schools are implementing successful 1:1 programs.

The goal of any device should be to fade into the background, allowing learning to always be in the forefront. Tailoring your curriculum to include devices such as iPads can have a positive impact on student engagement in the classroom and continued learning outside the classroom. When iPads are integrated effectively, the outcomes can be amazing. Bookmark these websites for some great tips.

9 iPad Apps that Assess Student Learning

9 iPad Apps that Assess Student Learning | learning technologies | Scoop.it

"As an iPad Lab teacher, I work closely with the classroom teachers to deepen and assess their students’ understanding of the material taught in the classroom—oftentimes, teachers ask that I spend additional time in the lab covering material that they’ve already taught.

The apps listed below are some of my favorite apps to use in these instances. Technology allows students opportunities to demonstrate and engage in learning in ways that go beyond using paper and pencil.

A tedious review session, suddenly becomes a something to look forward to. Completing a project that demonstrates the child’s knowledge about a topic becomes a task to be enjoyed and flaunted.

Use these apps to take your classroom learning environment and assessment to the next level."

Remember:

People don’t learn from experience.
People learn when reflecting on experience.
People learn more when they can witness their own reflection."

The Padagogy Wheel - It’s Not About The Apps, It’s About The Pedagogy -

The Padagogy Wheel - It’s Not About The Apps, It’s About The Pedagogy - | learning technologies | Scoop.it
The Padagogy Wheel is designed to help educators think – systematically, coherently, and with a view to long term, big-picture outcomes – about how they use mobile apps in their teaching. The Padagogy Wheel is all about mindsets; it’s a way of thinking about digital-age education that meshes together concerns about mobile app features, learning transformation, motivation, cognitive development and long-term learning objectives.

The Padagogy Wheel, though, is not rocket science. It is an everyday device that can be readily used by everyday teachers; it can be applied to everything from curriculum planning and development, to writing learning objectives and designing centered activities. The idea is for the users to respond to the challenges that the Wheel presents for their teaching practices, and to ask themselves the tough questions about their choices and methods.

That’s right; it’s a computer just like your desktop or laptop, as well as your mobile phone. You get screen size and portability all in one, and that is exactly what you need in a learning tool.

With its convenience and power all in one package, you should make the most of it as a learning tool right now and download some apps that will help you expand your understanding of the world and become a more complete human being, as well as help others do the same.
