3 Ways That Higher Ed Will Look Different in 2025 | Technology and Learning | Learning Space: Design Matters | Scoop.it
Ironically, it is the growth of online learning that is driving an improvement in the quality of our physical campuses.
Rebecca Frazee's insight:

"Ironically, it is the growth of online learning that is driving an improvement in the quality of our physical campuses.....

Rather than build lots of new residential learning spaces, we will be redesigning these spaces to take better advantage of new methods and technologies to support learning. Spaces will be flexible and purpose designed for active learning and collaboration. Since we will be redesigning learning spaces, rather than building new ones, we will need to achieve much higher rates of utilization.  The wonderful active learning classrooms that are being build across higher ed will be in heavy use in the years to come."

Is Noise Always Bad? Exploring the Effects of Ambient Noise on Creative Cognition
Ravi Mehta, Rui (Juliet) Zhu, and Amar Cheema
Rebecca Frazee's insight:

Sound and cognition #LDT-LSDM

This paper examines how ambient noise, an important environmental variable, can affect creativity. Results from five experiments demonstrate that a moderate (70 dB) versus low (50 dB) level of ambient noise enhances performance on creative tasks and increases the buying likelihood of innovative products. A high level of noise (85 dB), on the other hand, hurts creativity. Process measures reveal that a moderate (vs. low) level of noise increases processing difficulty, inducing a higher construal level and thus promoting abstract processing, which subsequently leads to higher creativity. A high level of noise, however, reduces the extent of information processing and thus impairs creativity.

Color boosts brain performance and receptivity to advertising, depending on task: UBC study | Learning Space: Design Matters | Scoop.it

Red boosted performance on detail-oriented tasks such as memory retrieval and proofreading by as much as 31 per cent compared to blue. Conversely, for creative tasks such as brainstorming, blue environmental cues prompted participants to produce twice as many creative outputs as when under the red colour condition.
